So tonyg, are you heading to Hollywood tomorrow for this Rarity ?
Other than Lu meeting Tom O at a Best Buy years ago in Minneapolis has she ever done an in-store record appearance ?
I couldn’t find anything in a search. Anyone help ?
This Amoeba appearance, i’m sure would be very unique and rewarding for anyone.

I chose the word Rarity in my first sentance and found the one and only one You Tube (just images no Lu) for this beautiful song. I heard Lu perform it in Toronto in ’08

Lu and the Love Band did an in-store gig there just around the time World Without Tears was released. Not sure if I’m going as Saturday is a busy day around here. Stay tuned.

Good times at Amoeba today. Lots of people buying music but it is often crowded. It was a boiling hot day in Hollywood; 90 plus degrees. Lu spoke at the beginning about how she worked in a couple of record stores when she lived in LA way back when. Then they played her selections which started out slow but rocked towards the end. She spent the hour hanging out and talking to any one who wanted a chat. I bought 4 CDs myself; Laura Nyro, Fairport Convention, and a new Jimi Hendrix and a new live Gram Parsons CD.

Also making the scene were websiters Paul from Los Angeles, GrumpyMama, and insider TOverby. We rule, as always.

What songs did Lu perform, tonyg? ❓

For as long as I stayed (I left early), Lu did not perform any songs. She presented some CD’s to the Amoeba staff, and they played her selections over the PA, while the hoards of consumers shopped, and purchased items at the 17 checkout lines. Lu chatted with the customers, but she did not bring any instruments, and she was not scheduled to sing. Perhaps, tonyg and GrumpyMama stayed later, and can augment my comments.

    Ah. I misread tonyg’s post – when he said “…they played her selections…”, I read it as “…she played her selections…”. Mea culpa… 😳

Mea culpa, aussi, Tnt: I not only interpreted “her selections” as her live performances; when that theorem was shot down, I interpreted it as her own songs played over house PA. But in the spirit of that Starbucks Artist Picks series (shouldn’t name that brand in a post about an independent business/record store I guess), I suppose it was her favorite covers, performed by their composers. Hey, Junior Kimbrough blasting the blues in west HOllywood ain’t bad.

How many Forum members braved the line and pumped flesh, a la that lucky greenAlligatorshirted lad?

For a [considerably more mundane] account of Record Store Day among Hoosiers, see my recent post in the “Records” thread.

WHOA. 90 degrees? There is still a chill in the air in my neck of the woods.

FF always rocks, tonyg. Thanks all for representing! Lu looked awesome.

Stoger, there was a line to buy special stuff that was onsale for record store day. Anyone could walk right in to shop and to see Lu do her DJ thing. Lu hung out and chatted and posed with many shoppers, including the brave souls from the website.
Lu selected about an hours worth of music she liked and brought the CDs down to the store and that was the music that we heard. I did not make a list. I remember and Eilen Jewell song, and a John Fullbright song. Maybe Tom will share the list.

That would be more than cool – then, the more obsessed among us can put together their own “Artist’s Choice” playlist, and experience the day vicariously… 😉

OK, tonyg will probably kill me, but I shall attempt to post the photo which those of you not on Facebook (you know who you are) have missed the pleasure.

I had one other comment to add. While the casual chatting was going on and as I was browsing the bins, I overheard Lucinda receiving compliments from some women on how fabulous she looked and ask her what was her secret? She responded something like, “a healthy immaturity”. Love it.

Second, Second, Lefty: it’s no contest. I am only mildly jealous re: my absence. Thanks, grumpy, for bringing the non Facebookers up to speed on such compelling visuals.
