A true North American collaboration Wednesday night at Marathon Music Works in Nashville: The legendary album Wrecking Ball played in toto, though not in sequence. Emmylou warmed up with eight or so tunes, mainly from Red Dirt Girl since Malcolm Burn was along. Their first was an achingly beautiful “Love Hurts.” Lanois came out in due time, with the first three songs being his two, plus the title track (Neil). “Sweet Old World” was tenth out of the dozen–with Steve Earle guesting on guitar and background vocals! The New Yorker returned to his stomping grounds for three tunes with her: His own (“Goodbye”), the Dylan cover, and SOW. I call that a sequence. Would that other writers of the material had been able to appear. . .Among the audience members was Colin Linden, a true Man in Black. She was not too chatty, but obviously glad to be there–benefit for pet adoption, relatively new venue off of downtown. Anybody else on Forum see it?
