Here is the link to the song Lu recorded a few weeks ago with Doug, Butch and David. As mentioned above it was done for a tribute album to British folk guitar legend Michael Chapman coming out on 5/29.
I think it is musically unlike anything she’s ever done. Will be interested to hear what everyone thinks.

very serene and dark, minimal and graceful, so graceful. and i agree that there’s nothing quite like it in her catalogue, but there are songs in BLESSED that have this ‘feel’, such as born to be loved/kiss like your kiss minus the repetitions/circular structure.
this song seemed like straight out of nick cave’s THE BOATMAN’S CALL. (a high compliment.)

lucinda sould cover ‘into my arms’ someday, someway. for a song that starts with a bizarre, clunky verse such as ‘i don’t believe in an interventionist god’ the rest is pretty much Heaven.
a friend pointed to me that the percussion section of the song is reminiscent of ‘broken butterflies’, and i can see that, actually. (and he agrees with me that the vocals are somewhat kiss like your kiss-y.)
still a very nice song. went to bed, woke up, listened to it again: still up there.
I agree with you Punch that Lu’s singing is reminiscent of Kiss Like Your Kiss.

Interesting observations as it was all done very spontaneously. We had the tempo set and Doug came up with the guitar loop/part and it all just went from there.
We all recorded the Jesse Winchester song in the same session–it was a long night but very successful.
On my first listen, I too, felt as though this had been recorded in the “Blessed” sessions which I thought was interesting since I knew Doug was playing on this song and had not on “Blessed.”
Lu’s vocals are absolutely breathtaking to listen to these past few years, this song included. No one can sing with raw emotion better than her.
