Jim made his annual appearance at Pappy and Harriet’s in Pioneertown Saturday night. He called it his Cinco de Mayo bash. Jim was in his usual great spirits, wandering around the joint before and after his show, greating any and all. Jim is a natural performer, on and off the stage.

A big crowd was treated to a nearly 3 hour show of country, Americana, and bluegrass music. The band was Jim’s usual desert assortment of Lucinda cronies: Dusry Wakeman on bass, Doug Pettibone on guitar, Greg Leisz on pedal steel, and Mitch Marine on drums. Gia Ciambotti sang on several songs. The band was super awesome. When the show was over they blasted music over the PA. One of the songs was “Real Love”, a song I had not heard in a long time. I wonder if it will return to the set list someday?

We were treated to a super full moon which in the otherwise dark desert sky was huge and bright, although I admit I had been drinking for a while and I thought I saw several moons up there. After the show there was much chit chatting outside under the full moon.

All in all a big winner and Jim told us to plan another such night this time next year.

Fond memories of seeing the likes of Anne McCue and Sara Petite there, tony. Any news from anyone in the band? Gram Parsons country thereabouts, much mystical about that area.

Stoger, the correct answer is Leonard Cohen! And no he didn’t get the job.

You might have to go public with this narrative now. Didn’t the band member in question say the artist in question was “American?” NORTH American, I suppose.

Did Peter Gabriel really cut “Suzanne?”

Your right the clues were not in good order. I’ve not been released to tell the story. 8)

I’m planning on going to see Jim in Buffalo , NY at the Sportsmen’s Tavern 7/17/14.

Jim will start off solo in the first set and will be joined by a local group the Stone Country Band for the 2nd set.
It’s a great dive venue with good food, friendly staff and a balcony.
I was there in Sep./12 to see Gurf Morlix so it will be a special treat to meet another musician connected with Lu from the earlier years.

I remember how Jim managed to return from Bristol, TN to join Lu for several songs at 3rd & Lindsley in Nashville last fall. I still have the Lightning 100 recording on my laptop.

Should be a great evening for $25.00

    Here are the details.

the phrase “connected with Lu from the earlier years” loosely unites Morlix and Lauderdale, yes, but paths have diverged in more recent history. . . .

I too managed I-40 in record time, lwj, that fateful last fall. Bristol headliners this year, by the way, will be Emmylou Harris and jeff Tweedy.
