I just checked OTR’s website. There are exclamation points behind “Opening for Lucinda Williams” on their event calendar. 馃榾

Yup, but saw it first on Lucinda’s FB.
Tom O mentioned in a previous thread that there will be a few surprises this tour.
This could be construed as surprise # 2 with #1 reported earlier being the unique Gruene Hall show coming up with a private concert, a dinner and a full show.

Great to hear, their vocal and instrumental skills are superb–but I’m not sure Karin and Lanford (if I have the names right) have the rodeo savvy to truly open this run. Time will tell. [still better than deborah Winger and John Travolta starting the evening though]

Stog, it can’t possibly be – in an effort to focus everyone’s attention on said rodeo efforts – that OTR will start at 10:30pm?? Ifso factso, then Lu doesn’t start until almost midnight? Please say it ain’t so. 馃榾 I need to start napping now… 8)

LOL – yeah, I guess the staying up late isn’t the problem…The getting up early, now that’s another issue… 馃槅

stoger, I don’t think you have to worry about Karin and Linford’s rodeo savvy.
After all they will be heading to cowboy country in New Mexico and Colorado later this month on their Musical narrow gauge train ride-Roots on Rails.$2,400.00 approx p.p. (double occupancy) They will be out on the range with cook outs, etc.
AND to reinforce their outdoor life, Karin and Linford actually live on a farm in Ohio called the “Nowhere Farm” (kinda reminds me of a Neil Y. song)
Here’s a portion of Linford’s writing from Over the Rhines journals on their web site.

    October 26, 2010

    Greetings friends,

It’s a blustery fall day out here on Nowhere Farm.

I made the coffee dark and strong, and Karin and I sat on the porch swing for awhile. Five deer crossed the road at the edge of our property. A redtail hawk was flying low over the fields.

The leaves of the towering maples are mostly rosy or wine dark or fiercely yellow. Karin has been saying we need to pull out the leaf rakes. I tend to want to wait until every last leaf comes down before I roll up my sleeves.

The last flowers of summer to bloom are the wild asters, and I brought in a huge white bouquet a few days ago, which Karin arranged on the dining room table. That’s the last wild bouquet of the year. Now we turn our attention to arranging our songs and setting out to find you, with hopefully a little of the same wild beauty still fresh in our minds.

Living out here on our own is an ongoing experiment. We do love the deep solitude, but we weigh the isolation. Maybe someday we’ll have a dog friendly apartment on the edge of a park in a vibrant city, where we can surround ourselves more often with the flinty sparks of creativity of other writers, musicians, painters. But hopefully we can always keep our little Ohio farm. I was reminded of all the memories we’ve made out here when a chipping sparrow nest blew out of one of the maples this morning. The nest had been lined earlier this summer with Elroy’s hair.

It’s harvest time on Nowhere Farm. We grow songs mostly.
And just to finish this off here’a a grainy video of their farm property.

Yes, lwj, he did at least once (Raleigh) this summer. I think we can expect Over the Rhine, local, Blake Mills, local, Buick 6, Blake Mills, local. . . as kind of a pattern, based on this year. And it’s not a bad pattern. All this and January duo shows too: whoo hoo!!

I’ve been working on accruing sky miles points — January is looking to be a slow show month (for me), which is a good thing, perhaps an air trip is in my near future. 8)
