So what is a fan to do with his “off day?” Why, double back to middle Tennessee for Amy Lavere at the newly renovated club 3rd & Lindsley, you might suggest. Yes, and what a surprise to see ex-Fleetwood Mac member Billy Burnette opening–and more of a surprise still that Kenny Vaughan sat in for the entire 35-minute set, and that the offspring of Bonnie & Delaney sang back-up for the final two songs, sharing a mike with KV. Becca Bramblett is I believe the correct rendering of her name. Hellfire, this was just the opener, wasn’t even 8:30 by the time all this was happening. . . . BB has apparently played with Fogerty and Dylan too, and I liked him much.
Amy Lavere was of course great, though she eschewed the pencil-line clown-face cosmetics of her Mercy Lounge Americana show of the previous weekend. Her violinist was back, band in full and fine fettle. Good luck to Amy and band on the upcoming European tour.
The renovation was impressive, though some might miss the unisex side bathroom and the long, well-lighted table in back corner. The stage is centred now, with many more tables overall and a generous artists’ dressing room (so I’m told) upstairs. Now it’s time for 3rd & L to make a comeback bid for Americana showcase venue status. It beats the Rutledge, to be sure.

I’m glad you were able to make this, I should have entered your name, stoger into Grimey’s little contest to win tickets by dropping name in a fishbowl type container while there during the AMA’s. I had a feeling you would attend. 😀

I know! I know!
The tip to this show came from that Grimey’s stop Tom and I made where I saw the ‘fishbowl’ contest. 8)

Yes, my own li’l Jackson TN is hosting his induction, along with Jack “Cowboy” Clement. Twenty-five bucks seems a hard result for a 2-mile drive downtown, but the music goes on all afternoon, so we’ll see. Would I rather be on a Rocky Mountain high today? You bet. Still, the Jayhawks storm Memphis tomorrow night, with Jolie Holland. . .
