This may be a stupid question, but this just popped up in my iTunes alert and I’m wondering what it is exactly?

August 2, 2011 at 2:25 am #47797tntracyParticipantHmmmmm. That is rather bizarre. The songs are all the tracks from Lu’s Happy Woman Blues album, but with, in most cases, the wrong title. And, it says it is published in 2011 by “Smith & Co”, whoever that is… ❓

Bizarre is right Tom.
For example:
Nobody Knows Who We Are in the Smith & Co. is of course Sharp Cutting Wings in the original.
Bill in the Smith & Co.is Hard Road in the original.
They have created ( disguised ) what looks like a new release under a new title.
Tom O. may be interested in looking into copywrites, etc. on this.
I’m surprised it appears on Apple/ iTunes.-Don’t they check out their stuff ?
By the way, when you open up the iTunes Store you can hear each song in its entirety.
All kinda reminds me way back when with K-Tel records.
Here’s all I could find out about Smith & Co.Smith & Co

Paul Smith – Managing Director
Petra Smith – Business managerAbout Smith & Co
Smith & Co. is an all round music and DVD company that enjoys bringing CD’s, 12 inch vinyl pressings and DVD’s onto the market in the hope that there are like minded people out there who think that these products are worth having. It can vary from artists such as the incredibly under-rated Dorothy Moore who stole our hearts way back in the 70’s with “Misty Blue” to the quirky hippy jug band sounds of Norman Greenbaum, but who will always be remembered for “Spirit in the Sky”, anything but jug band sounding!
Everything in between is interesting to Smith & Co. probably because it’s founder , Paul Smith has spent the last 30+ years in the music business and wouldn’t know what else to do. 😉
Record Label
Smith & Co releases CD’s spanning the spectrum of music styles ranging from Country to Soul, Disco to Rock ‘n’ Roll.Licensing
One of the largest independent Licensing and Sync Licensing agents for many US & UK labels featuring artists such as Andy Williams, the Everly Brothers, David Soul, Norman Greenbaum, Johnny Cash, Bobby Darin and hundreds of other successful artists.Te Mata Music Publishing
An ever growing catalogue of Chill, Lounge, Trance, Ambient and World Music, administrated world wide by Novello & Co. Limited
Who knows if it’s the same Smith & Co. on the iTunes as I couldn’t find any mention of “Love in My Heart” by Lu on their web site.
Here’s the link.

August 3, 2011 at 6:06 pm #47800tntracyParticipantTOverby has been notified & is looking into it. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the link “break” in the near future… 😉

I’ll be interested to know how it came about in the first place – did someone really have the bare-faced cheek to just appropriate the material, retitle and resell it? 😯
European iTunes winds up with a lot of ‘dodgy’ releases due to looser copyright laws on older material (pre-70s generally), so I never suspected that would be the case with something of Lucinda’s, and on the US store too. Live and learn I guess.
August 5, 2011 at 7:44 pm #47802TOverbyParticipantThis is definitely an unauthorized recording and the info has been passed on to Lucinda’s lawyer. I’m sure a cease and desist letter will go out shortly. I am sorry that this happened and we will be taking it up with I-Tunes.
August 5, 2011 at 8:05 pm #47803punchdrunkloveParticipantthose alternate titles.
August 7, 2011 at 12:05 am #47804GrumpyMamaParticipantIt’s also on the Rhapsody music catalog and I would guess many others in addition to iTunes…

Thanks for the info Tom. Hopefully this thread will help stop others from getting burned too.
August 12, 2011 at 11:27 pm #47806tntracyParticipantLooks like the law-dogs got after ’em – the link is now broken… 😉
Also, I checked the iTunes U.S. store’s complete listing of albums by Lu or featuring Lu, and it wasn’t listed.
