Seems like no one in the Friendly Forum attended to report on the Festival or add the set list to Set List FM.

Lucinda Williams, one of America’s most beloved folk-blues songwriters and artists, pulled into town and delivered a set that spanned her epic 32 years as a performer. Pulling a heartfelt selection from each era of her work, Lucinda’s persona as the grit-laden chanteuse whose life and work border on a golden chaos shone through in songs like “Can’t Let Go”, “Drunken Angel”, “Bleeding Fingers” and “Joy”, three of which came from her Grammy-winning 1996 album ‘Car Wheels on a Gravel Road’. In a stripped-down four piece arrangement of her band, Lucinda also treated onlookers to a preview of two songs from her new album & was even quick to compliment our fair city. Early in her set, a fan shouted out, “We love you, Lucinda!” Without batting an eye, Lucinda graciously thanked everyone in the crowd & said, “I’m so glad to be back in Memphis. lwjEDIT: This was a dream night that lafayette could not not make since Lu was followed on stage by Mr. John Mellencamp and lafayette was busy exploring Crescent City.
Well, a 1996 release would have been under the pre-Twang Trust, Morlix auspices–and we can each speculate whether THAT would have been “Grammy-winning.” But thanks for digging up this Tennessee tidbit, LWJ–and for not making me too guilty I was not in attendance in my native state.
Yes, indeed, a show I would have loved to have seen…it could have been two dream “pairings” in as little as three months. Thanks for digging up this info, lwj.
Not only was the release year of CWOAGR as stated in the article incorrect, stoger, but I think the author needs to check the release month of Blessed. A “preview [emphasis added] of two songs from her new album”? Really? 😉

According to news reports, the Mississipi is spilling over onto Beale Street. Weather related tragedies continue.
I found video evidence of “buttercup” as the lead off song for Beale Street. It sounded fantastic! I’ m unable to provide link…on my iPad as PC is in the shop.

The video is a great capture of this song. As much as I love “I Just Wanted To See You So Bad,” I think “Buttercup” is a perfect opener, especially for open air venues and GA shows where the tone is higher energy.

Thanks for checking it out. Glad you liked it. I’m sorry to say I can’t provide a complete list of her set. I was able to record a few more songs, but she played for well over an hour so there was a bunch I didn’t cover.
