Hello everybody
Wanted to fill you guys in on something that a few of you have already started to notice; there are a few songs that have a changed appearance, so to speak. They vary from just having gotten some vitamin B to a full-on wardrobe change. We’re experimenting every night! Steal Your Love has become this great moving bassline, cyclical groove that allows Lu to really spin the lyric out, Are You Down has almost this 70’s jazz, surf-rock feel to it, and Unsuffer Me is getting REALLY dark!!!
Some more are still in the fire; Get Right With God with a great “new” twist is coming, and we’re working out a few covers that will give people a chance to see a side of Lu they havnt seen in a VERY long time…
So as a heads up, if you aren’t already, come to these shows with awesome open-mindedness for something a little different! What are some other songs that you guys havnt heard from Lu in a while that we should consider taking a look at for one of these “new approaches”?
Thanks y’all!

I was listening to “West” on my drive home from Indy the other night, and was grooving on “Where Is My Love?” I have a fondness for this record (I know a few don’t) as it helped get me thru the grieving period after the loss of my Mother.

I am so looking forward to this show. My brother and i will be attending. Hopefully LW will be coming to Nashville later this year? Thanks, Great Forum. Kelly in Brentwood.

Now, of course, these are “mellow” songs as opposed to “rockers”, so they may not be good candidates for “the treatment”. So, another song, more of a rocker and one with a definite groove, that I hardly ever hear Lu play is “Hot Blood”. I love that song, too!

I know you do, tnt, and I was thinking of you as I heard Lu sing it. The acoustics were impeccable.
April 25, 2011 at 4:43 am #46907LafayetteParticipantThe “new” Steal Your Love. The video portion isn’t all that great, angle bad, lighting not so good, and I knew that before I started filming, but I just had to get this on tape to remember it. Awesome, awesome version.

Here are a couple of suggestions on two songs that haven’t been at a gig for awhile.
Both from Little Honey.
1. Betcha you and Lu would do a great duet on “Jailhouse Tears”. The most memorable moment for this one was the 4, count em 4 restarts during the podcast at First Avenue in Minneapolis in ’07-lots of comedy to listen to.2. “Rarity” is very rarely (pardon the pun) played. I heard Lu do this in Toronto for, she said the first time on the Little Honey Tour in October, 2008 just before the CD release. It is a very long song with great verses like “Your voice a cello, Your words speak volumes, In and out, around flow, Like Leonard Cohen’s”. I think you could throw in a great riff on this one.
I’ll throw in another duet that Lucinda could cover with you. None other than your great song “Hey Lover”
Finally Blake, do you play any other instruments such as a keyboard ? Would really add to the concerts.
Boy, after only 3 nights on the current tour you are raising eyebrows with your talent. Tom O. and Lu nailed the new guitarist selection process to a T.

Pulled a few out from West tonight, an album that doesn’t get enough attention from us IMHO. Also did my first duet w Lu, Side Of The Road. Awesome experience, but I may have had the wrong guitar for it! Next time I may try something a bit different.I’d love to work out Like A Rose, kind of a drop dead gorgeous tune as it is…
Gonna suggest we try Learning How To Live too
April 27, 2011 at 3:12 pm #46910LafayetteParticipantCongrats, Blake, on your first Lu duet!
I’m happy to see some of the other songs from “West” get some attention in regards to set list inclusion and your insight on how the songs are shaping up for you.
April 29, 2011 at 11:49 pm #46911blakeParticipant“Rarity” was played at soundcheck… We’ll see where it goes!
May 8, 2011 at 2:11 am #46912homosacerParticipantI’d love to hear “Mama You Sweet” again
thanks for the openness.
May 9, 2011 at 5:34 am #46913GrumpyMamaParticipantAgree. Perfect mothers day song…
May 18, 2011 at 2:34 pm #46914orlananParticipantI love the fact that we get to “chat” with the band…Blake, havent seen you on this tour yet, but will be at the Beacon in July……looking forward to it.
I really like the obvious energy you are bringing to the band….looking at older songs…different ways to re-invent them…..very cool.
I am anxious to hear the “Steal your Love” version, as I always liked that song…..
Cant think of one that I would suggest to re-do right now, but I love “Still I long for your Kiss” and especially the slowed down, more acoustic version…..much more impact to me….maybe there is even more room for variation there. I always felt this was an underrated Lu song….and one I would have expected to see others cover more.
Finally, I agree with the comments about duets; looking forward to Jailhouse Tears!
Keep on rockin and enjoy!
