This was taken the night of the Janis Joplin tribute in Cleveland. The stage sign indicates (I would think) this was taken at the venue. This is the night Lu wrote “Port Arthur” just minutes before taking the stage.

And if memory serves (and in my case I think you might agree it does), we, Lafayette, were there. . . .

Well I certainly wasn’t there (at the RNRHOF Janis Jopling Tribute show), but, are we sure that was where this photo was taken? In the background, to the right & above Lu, on a red-framed box or something, it says “Palace Theatre” and, searching on that, I didn’t find a Palace Theatre in Cleveland… ❓

OK, with some further “Googling”, I solved my own mystery. This was apparently indeed taken that night in Cleveland (not that I was seriously doubting you both Lafayette & stoger, but it just seemed odd). The tribute show was at the State Theater in Playhouse Square in Cleveland. According to this theatermania.com entry, the Playhouse Square Center is comprised of eight performance spaces (14th Street Theatre, Allen Theatre, Kennedy’s, Hanna Theatre, Ohio Theatre, Palace Theatre, State Theatre, Studio One in the Idea Center). In the list are both State Theater & Palace Theater, so that would explain what is in the background of the photo…

At any rate, it is indeed a great photo (although it’s too bad about the flash glare in Lu’s glasses – that is the only thing that slightly detracts from it)…

P.S. As a point of interest, I don’t think I mentioned when I posted it that this photo was posted on Facebook by Ms. LaVette herself – it showed up in my News Feed because she “tagged” Lu in the photo, which caused it to show up on Lu’s FB page, as well as in the News Feeds of all Lu’s FB friends…

No flash glare in this photo courtesy of Susan Tedeschi’s web site.
Let’s watch Betty from the tribute.

Yes, your memory is spot on, stoger. It was truly a memorable night! I spoke to Betty Lavette that evening and the first thing that caught my eye was that belt buckle 😀 and I remember Lu’s necklace, too!

    Hey
I’m new to the forum. I am Bettye LaVette’s husband, and I took BOTH of those pics.
They were indeed backstage after the Janis show.

Hi Tom. Say hey to Lu for me.
