    Hi,

I love the guitar solo sound (and playing) on Blessed, Convince Me, and Buttercup. I’m assuming it was Elvis Costello playing. Could you tell me what kind of amp/guitar/effects he used to get that sound? Love the whole album. Thanks.

It was his regular old Fender Jaguar -the one on the cover of My Aim Is True -it was pretty great to see that guitar. The amp was brand called 65amps which is a Birtish solid state amp. He endorses them and they brought in a brand new one for him to use on this session. It may have even be the model they call Lil’ Elvis -named after him but I think it was brand new model. On Buttercup he played in the control room and was plugged directly into the board and it was massively cranked. He loved doing it -it was quite a night.

I agree, Great acoustics. We are blessed to have Lucinda Williams in our ears. I’ve been hooked on her songs for years. I finally signed up to this forum to express my enjoyment of listening to her.

Good to hear that was Elvis’ solo on Buttercup. I can’t get enough of that song and the guitar is killer.
But is the opening guitar solo Elvis?
I was listening to the Real Live Bleeding Fingers song and solo from 10 or so years ago and the solo there sounds like the same player and one of the licks was even the same.
I concluded (incorrectly?) that it was Pettibone playing it. If it was Elvis, I think he “borrowed” from this solo?
