Here is a link to a “preview” article in the Mountain Xpress for next week’s show at the Orange Peel in Asheville, NC…

Yeah, I’ll be there RDM. I’d like to meet you as well. But, I’ve quit drinking alcohol, so you can buy me a coffee if you’d like. 😉 However, you had me nailed as a hophead. IPAs were my favorite! 😆
I’ll send you a PM. There will be others forum members there w/ me: Lafayette, West Words & stoger – another FF member (bigsubi) tagged us “The Four Horsemen”. I’ve embellished it to be “The Four Horsemen of the Lu-pocalypse”… 😈

March 9, 2011 at 6:18 pm #46056RainydaymanParticipantAwesome. I’m eager to meet this foursome of whom you speak. I’ll look for a PM.
March 9, 2011 at 9:20 pm #46057LafayetteParticipantI’m very excited to be coming to Asheville! It was an unplanned Lu stop. I love spontaneity, not to mention this will be my first full band show on this leg (minus new guitar slinger Blake).
March 16, 2011 at 8:35 pm #46058tntracyParticipantI just checked into my hotel in downtown Asheville. Now I need to find stoger & West Words. Just talked to Lafayette – she’s still on the road…

March 17, 2011 at 4:10 am #46060campbesjParticipantJust got back from the show at the Orange Peel. This was the first time I had seen Lucinda perform and I was very, very impressed. She sounds even better live than on her records…
I, and all the people around me, had an absolutely great time.
Hi to tntracy who I spoke to at the hotel and at the entrance to the OP>
March 17, 2011 at 7:28 am #46061tntracyParticipantHi campbesj! Welcome to the forum!! I’m sorry that our two encounters tonight were so brief that we didn’t properly introduce each other, but hopefully we can rectify that at another Lu show in the future. I am glad to see you registered & posted, though!
Well, it’s 3:15 AM, but I had to post something about tonight’s show at the Orange Peel before I tried to go to sleep. Tonight’s show ROCKED OUT!!! The setlist was geared to a high energy crowd that was ready to rock out, and Lu & the boys didn’t disappoint, and neither did the audience. I have to say that tonight’s crowd was the LOUDEST & MOST ENERGETIC crowd I can remember ever witnessing at a Lu show. You could tell that Lu & the band were honored by the reception they received, and they fed off of the energy & delivered a wonderful performance. Congratulations Lu, Butch, David & Val for a great show! And, congratulations Asheville & the Orange Peel for responding so well in return. Y’all made this Southern Boy proud!
Having learned in the past that others from the Friendly Forum do a better job of tracking & posting the details of the set list, I have given up trying to live up to their high standards. So, I do not have a set list to post right now, but I am sure West Words or stoger will be posting one in short order. 😉
I do want to say that it was again a pleasure to spend another evening & Lu performance with my dear “Lu buds” stoger, Lafayette & West Words, as well as seeing some other folks who I haven’t seen in too long, most notably Randy & Cathy (Or is it Kathy? or Kathi? 😉 ) from Birmingham, who I haven’t seen in over 2 years (since the Tabernacle show in Atlanta in February, 2009). It was also a pleasure meeting forum member Rainydayman & his friend Anna, as well as West Words friends’ Cathy & Catherine. I enjoyed spending the evening with all of y’all!
Good Night,
Tom
March 17, 2011 at 1:37 pm #46062AnneSParticipantNew to the forum, but not to the Great Lucinda.
The show at the Orange Peel last night was my first time seeing her live, and I was blown away. I agree that they seemed jazzed by the reception and appreciation of the crowd last night. Been a long time since I’ve been to a concert where you feel “there’s something special here tonight.”
Second encore, Buffalo Springfield’s “For What It’s Worth” (“There’s somethin happening here, what it is ain’t exactly clear…”) was a brilliant choice, brilliantly performed. A perfect ending to a rockin’ night.
I know I’m preaching to the choir, but…don’t miss the chance to catch a live show. Makes you fall in love all over again (and not in a creepy way!) 😉
March 17, 2011 at 3:11 pm #46063tonygKeymasterSounds like last night’s show was a keeper. Great reports!
March 17, 2011 at 5:37 pm #46064tntracyParticipantI just got home (I never can sleep on the road!) and, since my “co-conspirators” are almost assuredly still travelling, I will do my best to piece together a set list from last night. Please bear in mind, this is completely from my (faulty) memory… 😉
********** NOTE: Out of order set list!!! **********
I Just Wanted To See You So Bad
Happy Woman Blues (Val smoked!)
I Don’t Know How Your’re Living
Crescent City
2 Kool 2 Be 4-Gotten
Born To Be Loved
Something About What Happens When We Talk
I Lost It
Real Live Bleeding Fingers & Broken Guitar String
Buttercup

Convince Me
Right In Time
Righteously
Essence
Come On
Changed The LocksEncore (to loud applause & hootin’ & hollerin’):
Blessed
Get Right With God
Joy2nd Encore (to THUNDEROUS applause & hootin’ & hollerin’):
For What It’s Worth
********** NOTE: Out of order set list!!! **********That’s all I can remember for now. I am almost 100% positive all the songs I listed above were played, but I am sure I butchered the order (except for the encores – I think I got that right, order & all, despite the cold beer dripping down my back at the time… 🙄 ).
If any others come to me, I will add them – I’m pretty sure I left at least a couple out – Lu & the band played for almost 2 hours, and the set lists taped to the floor of the stage were 1½ pages long. West Words and / or stoger will be along shortly, I am sure, to “set this list” straight… 😉

March 17, 2011 at 5:56 pm #46065tntracyParticipantP.S. Fashion report for those interested: Lu had on her “cool blue” squarish-shaped glasses, a white w/ blue print snap-front “cowboy” shirt, jeans w/ belt w/ large silver buckle, and those awesome black with silver studs Old Gringo cowboy boots that inspired me to get a pair of Old Gringo boots (of a different style) for my wife this past Christmas…

March 17, 2011 at 6:01 pm #46066RainydaymanParticipantThanks for the setlist Tom. I can’t think of any songs omitted. That was a rowdy crowd last night wasn’t it? I contributed several hoots and hollers myself. And it was especially nice to meet you, West Words, and stoger. Good times, good times.
March 17, 2011 at 6:23 pm #46067stogerParticipantWell, our scribe WEst Words had the usual pen and pad, but in the absence of her report so far, I will compliment sir tntracy for nailing 17 out of the 18 main set songs. You list “Essence” twice my friend, probably because it was so damn smoking. “Honeybee” you lacked, song 18 (final one of main set). Your order is close, with “People Talkin'” and “Right in Time” earlier, “I Don’t KNow How…” later, etc. But solid memory. West Words needs to decipher that scribbled scrawl and set us all straight: Not a big night of Lu comments, but some which I know WW wrote down. Hope someone will pick up the ball for Austin and Okla. City (I feel “bigdunc” and “parkerca” getting ready even as I type); it’s been a great run for me. Heartland in late April? Quite probably.
And a shout-out to raindayman, my fellow ASU alum (not Arizona St. either)…
