Actually Buttercup and Jailhouse Tears are about the same person and she has been saying that it is the last song about that person. The ironic thing about Jailhouse Tears has always been that some people and critics have said it was a little too cute and funny. When it was recorded we tried very hard to take that element out of it, but even though it comes off the way it does there is every bit as much truth in that song as all the others. As a result I’ve always seen that song in pretty different light and the criticism of it as being “cute” or mannered was sort of like…. if you only knew. But I guess it is what it is.
