Here is the setlist for the 3rd night in Mpls. Completely different from the first two nights as once we found out Tony Glover -of the legendary Koerner, Ray & Glover- could make it we knew it would be blues night. It’s always great when Tony sits in. Eric Kostinen is a local guy who’s starting to get some notice and some friends had been raving about him. With everyone just sort of sitting in it became a much more fly by the seat of the pants kind of night. A couple of other notes about this night–we had Seeing Black and Essence in the set but she ran out of time before the show and couldn’t run through them. The songs that she doesn’t play on at all with the band require some additional refreshing. But on these three nights she played over 50 different songs -as promised -and I gotta hand it to her as that was a challenge -but she loves those. One other sidebar–jazz guitar legend Bill Frisell who played on West and has recently recorded a version of Ventura, was playing across town and really wanted to make it but it just didn’t quite work out. That would have been something. Damn.

Great variance, though that 250 minimum food/drink cover mentioned in another stream gives a fan pause. Would a lone wolf with a backpack who might have nabbed a corner bar stool (if Dakota even sells such slots) been subject to this level of consumption to retain his seat? Wish I had been there to find out. . .

I stood at the back bar for all 3 shows and saw no evidence of that going on. I recall one night -the 2nd I believe, a group of 4 sitting at the table and they were only drinking and no one was pushing them to drink more etc.
Maybe it is something they do for the first row tables but I am not aware of it and I got exactly zero complaints about that -or for that matter anything. I have known the owner for years, as it turns out he is also from Austin Mn, -and he has built this club from the early days when it was a tiny jazz club in Bandana Square in St. Paul to what it is now. And he has largely built it on extreme hospitality to both his customers and and the artists. I am thrilled that after narrowly surviving on several occasions he has been able to diversify his bookings and make a real go at it. As the live music industry is continually evolving, for artists like Lucinda I believe these small intimate clubs will be a key component to the long term future on the live side. In other words we will need them. -
