Apologies if this was previously mentioned, but Lu is on the cover of this month’s EQ Magazine. It’s actually one of my favorite things I’ve read about Blessed, as it really dives into some of the nuts and bolts of the recording of the album.

You can’t read the article online, but you can read an interview excerpt with Lucinda, Tom, Don and Eric:

This edition of EQ was a topic of conversation at Coach’s – a sports bar in Bloomington where we gathered before the show week before last. Thanks for the link…

kudos for an interview w/out ‘how come you write sad songs if you’re happy?’.

Amen! 😆 I’m sure Lu was amazed that she didn’t get that question (yet AGAIN)!

pdl–Lucinda completely agrees with you on that point.

Or, of course, its corollary: “Now that you are in a happy, stable relationship, will you still be able to write sad / heartbreak / unrequited love songs?” 🙄

right? i don’t understand at all why one thing supposedely leads to another. there are a thousand different ways to investigate the creative process of anyone. lots of interviews put “copenhagen” and “seeing black” in the same question (as Sad Songs), but they can’t be further apart. instead of asserting that ‘seeing black is a song about a suicide’ you can go with the black/red/white gradations on the song, and what about that verse ‘did you wax the deck to make it easier to slip’, which without the context is a bit comical, but it’s not funny at all. wouldn’t you prefer for a change that LW gave specific details of a single verse, how can someone waxing a ship’s deck came to her. a great image! but that’s me, i’m obsessed with lyrics. maybe LW wouldn’t say much about it, but i’d like to read this question, like, this interviewer actually pays attention to the small stuff.

can anyone upload the article? is it allowed?

I haven’t seen the article in the physical magazine, but it looks like they have posted the entire article online now
