As a long time Lucinda fan, and not missing any of her shows here in recent history, I’m very upset that she is playing the Dakota Jazz Club. There was virtually no chance at getting tickets, and those who did get them are paying an inflated cost due to the fewer seats because of the size of the club, and that the Dakota has their own ticket club who gets priority. Being that her husband/manager is from here, he probably had something to do with the booking, and should realize that such an intimate setting probably is’nt the best for her group.
She can easily fill up a much larger venue which would produce a much more reasonable ticket price along with it. She is shutting out a number of people who would have liked to have seen her especially that she’s out promoting a new cd. Guess she/he should’nt have severed ties with Sue Mclean.
I am sorry the you are upset, but please allow me to answer. First-yes the idea was mine. We decided that we wanted to do a few solo shows in small intimate settings right before the album came out and the Dakota was one place that I thought of. I was surprised at how fast the ticket sales went for these shows, and we were offered a third show but we couldn’t fit in. The live music market is very hard to judge right now and we generally err on the safe side. Obviously knowing what I know now we probably could have done 4 or 5 nights there, and I really wish that would’ve happened, however there was no way of knowing that until it was too late. The general plan for the solo shows was to play a few places that we couldn’t do with a band, and also to play places that we felt we could come back to with the band later in the year and that is the case with Mpls. We do plan on coming back with the band a little later in the year. I am watching this forum and if we end up with a few extra tickets I will contact the people in here to see if they still want to go. I can’t make any guarantees, but I am keeping track in case I do end up with a few extras.
Interesting….nothing I have heard about the two shows said anything of them being “solos”. That may upset some people who bought tickets expecting to hear her with her band.
Just got off the phone confirming this–because of overwhelming demand we are now adding a 3rd solo show in Mpls on 2/22.
The great fans of Minneapolis demanded it, and they got it! 😀

After selling out two shows in a few days, Lucinda Williams has added a third one at the Dakota Jazz Club. Tickets ($50 and $60) to her Feb. 22 gig will go on sale Monday.
The queen of Americana is playing solo acoustic shows to preview her exceptional new CD, “Blessed,” which will be released March 1. In a recent interview from Los Angeles, she promised to play material from her entire career as well as a different set list every night.
The Dakota gigs, Feb. 20-22, are her smallest shows in the Twin Cities since her debut at the 7th Street Entry at First Avenue. She did play a duo show with guitarist Doug Pettibone at the O’Shaughnessy in St. Paul in 2006.
My brother and sister in law named their baby girl after Lucinda in November. Would love to figure out how to get them tickets to a Minneapolis show while I’m in town visiting from NYC and can babysit the cutie 4 month old Lucinda. Anyone?
I just got a google alert that other Minneapolis shows were cancelled tonight because of the snow, but that Lu’s show was still on. Probably she’s the only one with a driver who knows how to maneuver in the snow. Be safe everyone. 🙂

Yes -we got in last night–just barely but that’s another story that didn’t have anything to do with the weather–and the show is not cancelled.

Of Minneapolis”I remember at the NYC shows last year, there was a young musician (Hi Ben, if you are part of the forum) who LOVED Lu, and REALLY loved that song. He yelled out for it every night. On the third night she took an exceptionally long break before the encore, and sure enough, she played Minneapolis for him. The kid was beside himself, it was a beautiful thing. 🙂
And that is the magic of “The Book”. At any given show, it is possible that any song could emerge, whether or not it was planned for. 🙂

We are long term fans and see you every time you come to town. But it was treacherous last night and we decided it would not be smart to venture out. We called the Dakota about our tickets to see if they were offering refunds or a credit for a future show. We were told we should just give our tickets to someone who lives closer to the Dakota! Believe it or not, Dakota, Lucinda has fans outside of Minneapolis! It’s nice to say “the show must go on” for those who can get there, but this was one of very few shows in town that was not cancelled and there should be some kind of ticket policy for adverse weather. Not even an offer of a free drink at the next show you attend. But, for us, that’s a moot point.
