The late Vic Chestnutt also has a track called Lucinda Williams on his West Of Rome album, which was produced by Michael Stipe.

    Thanks for the info TO.

Seems most appropriate to play Vic Chesnutt’s track from 1991 for the Forum, especially since Lucinda has dedicated a song to Vic “Seeing Black” to appear on “Blessed”
Amazing that despite a serious auto accident which left Vic partially paralyzed for most of his short life, he carried on performing right until late last year.
    Here is the track.

Lucinda must inspire a lot of other musicians, as there are also songs titled “Lucinda Williams” by both Robert Bobby and a band called Buffalo Nickel.

I don’t know how to post links to the songs, but I believe I found them both on iTunes a couple of years ago.

(It’s also worth mentioning that Doug Pettibone played on Vic Chesnutt’s 2003 album, Silver Lake, which was produced by Mark Howard, who also produced World Without Tears).

    ([/i]).

Welcome to Lu’s Friendly Forum su_gar and thanks for finding this.
Here’s a quick “how to” post links.
Just highlight the web address at the top until it turns Blue then right click Copy and when you are ready with the text on your post in the right spot click on Edit Paste in your post.

Here’s a link to hear Robert Bobby’s song “Lucinda Williams” from his 2001 album called Fubar. Song sounds great.
    http://robertbobby.com/2009/listen.htm
Also here is a rather neat article on Robert Bobby and Buffalo Nickel.

    QUOTE”
Philadelphia singer-songwriter Robert Bobby recorded his own song called “Lucinda Williams,” on his 2001 album “FUBAR.” The singer says he drove more than three hours from Pennsylvania to New York City to see his first Lucinda Williams concert in 1990 or 1991 — and wrote the song on the drive home. Unlike the other songs, where Williams’ music is a character in the periphery of another drama, Bobby’s song tells the story of his first Williams concert: “Lucinda Williams, that’s your name, you’re the reason that I came … you stole the feelings of my heart.” Williams wasn’t very comfortable on stage then, Bobby said, but she has improved in the dozen times he’s seen her perform since. A third song named “Lucinda Williams” made the rounds of Napster before being released on an album. The band, Buffalo Nickel, was formed in Hattiesburg, Miss., in 1999, and its song “Lucinda Williams” was written by the band’s Emily Graham. Both Buffalo Nickel and the actual Lucinda Williams played at Austin’s South By Southwest music conference in 2001. While in the audience at the Williams show, Graham unsuccessfully tried to get a CD copy of the song “Lucinda Williams” to the real Williams. Graham’s lyric mentioning Williams goes: “So it seems that little Debbie has got some big ideas, and now she don’t smoke Virginia Slims, and she listens to Lucinda Williams.” Buffalo Nickel’s song “Lucinda Williams” did finally appear on its album “Up On Blocks.” But on July 7, 2002, after the band had received its first copies of the CD, songwriter Graham died in a car accident. The other members of Buffalo Nickel played at Graham’s funeral. The band played “Lucinda Williams.” listening • “Lucinda Williams,” Vic Chesnutt • “Lucinda Williams,” Robert Bobby • “Lucinda Williams,” Buffalo Nickel

    END QUOTE”
I’ll try to find Buffalo Nickel’s song too.
    Here ya go. Buffalo Nickel

Thanks for the “rest of the story” about those songs, LWjetta. That’s heartbreaking about the Buffalo Nickel singer. I really dig her song on a lot of levels, and not just for the Lu reference (although the title is what led me to listen in the first place). It seems to be a fairly realistic depiction of someone with depression or mental illness. It’s no surprise that all the songs titled “Lucinda Williams” would be excellent, each in its own way.

Also thanks for the how-to about posting links, but I misspoke. It wasn’t the “how” part I had trouble with; it was that I simply didn’t have a handy link for listening to either song online, and I wasn’t resourceful enough (or motivated enough) to track them down, as you did. 8)

Mark Bates new album “Night Songs” has a song entitled “Lucinda”
    Some background first.

MARK BATES CELEBRATES RELEASE OF NIGHT SONGS WITH NIGHT TO REMEMBER AT HOTEL CAFE
Members of Lucinda Williams’ Band Back up Bates/Lucinda Shows Up

Los Angeles, CA—At just 24 years of age, singer/songwriter Mark Bates is already reaching what could be construed as the pinnacle of his career—but more likely it’s just the beginning. Last Friday, Bates released his sophomore album, Night Songs (street date June 12), on a special night at Hotel Café.

This album has taken on a special meaning for Bates, who had the opportunity to work with Eric Liljestrand, who has won a Grammy Award as engineer/mixer, and was co-producer of the Lucinda Williams albums, Blessed and Little Honey. But that also opened the door for members of Lucinda’s band to back up Bates for the release party—bassist David Sutton and drummer Butch Norton. Liljestrand also joined the band on lead guitar and backing vocals, as did pedal steel player Eric Heywood (Ray LaMontagne).

Why is this significant? Not only does Mark have a song on the album called “Lucinda,” but she was also in the audience last Friday.

“I was humbled to be playing with some of my favorite musicians,” said Bates. “Lucinda came out. I got to introduce her to my mom, who cried. It was a way cool evening that I’m still riding high from.”

But don’t just take his word for it. Liljestrand, who played lead guitar and sang backups on Friday evening, knows that Bates is a special talent as well and he sensed something that night.

“I always enjoy playing a show, but this felt different,” said Liljestrand. “It felt like we were playing hit songs. People were singing along, and it was all so effortless. Every time I looked over at one of the other players, we shared a smile. It was one of those nights where you remember why you do what you do.”

It would seem this youngster has a more promising future than his namesake Norman. Lots of Lu ops at the Hotel Cafe in the last couple of years, must be a friendly venue. That crackerjack band must have been a treat, lots of connections with Lu: I believe Eric Heywood’s wife Kristen Mooney has done some background vocal work for/with Lu. As for titular songs, let’s don’t neglect Jessie Malin’s tune of the same name, off of his Glitter in the Gutter LP. . . .

I’ve been coming to this forum for a couple years now. My first, no second post I think. Really enjoy it, and what a great way to learn more about Lu and music in general. Thank you all. A songwriter myself, I was so excited to see her for the first time at Fillmore Aud in Nov, 2011. Needless to say I was floored when I got back to my son’s apartment where I wa staying over. I couldn’t sleep, so took a walk around the block and blurted out this drunken tribute when I returned. Which I have finally worked up the nerve to share with you all here.

See if I can get the link: http://youtu.be/XJyggXLXqrk

I do a show on the Central Coast and sometimes sing one or two Lu songs. Usually am sober when performing. This btw was the one and only time this “song” has been performed. Really, it’s more of a thank you note than anything.
