Downloaded this track this morning. Sounds like Lucinda could have written this song.
    Great Track!

I agree – got my copy today as well. I love the arrangement w/ that long, haunting lead-in…

    Tom,
My wife and I were debating what happens to Lucy Jordan in the end. Is it suicide or is she taken to the asylum?
I can see both, but the line about a long white car and the crowd of people sounds like a hearse in a funeral procession to me.

I like to think that she winds up becoming a moderator here at the Friendly Forum 😮

Loony bin, graveyard, forum moderation – all peas in the same pod, Lefty… 😆

I don’t know, ParkerCA – it’s hard to say. But, aren’t hearses usually black?

True. I have seen some white though. Could be an ambulance.

Or, it could be a limo. All in her mind of course – she slowly becomes delusional to escape her reality until she believes she is riding through the streets of Paris with a dashing young man in a white limo.

    Or something like that.

    I dunno…

There’s a little bit more to the story behind this. Lucinda was working on learning this song a day or two before we recorded it and at one point I went dow to see how it was going and I noticed that she was crying and when I asked her what was wrong she said “Do you know how strange this is?” and I said “What?”, and she said “My mother’s name was Lucy and my step-mother’s name is Jordan”. I hadn’t even thought of that and was just completely stunned.
    I’ll never forget that moment.
Given the subject matter, her mother’s troubled life and Lucinda’s interpretation of the meaning of the end of the song– to her there is no doubt at all what it is about, it all hit very very close to home for her.

The ending of the song has long been debated and Shel Silverstein, who is no longer with us, never said for sure, as far as I know.
