Time for another Elvis Costello Experience–this time with The Sugarcanes complete with Jerry Douglas and Jim Lauderdale. Great setlists with EC going back to the classic Almost Blue Billy Sherrill produced super-bomb of an album. 6th-row on the aisle dead center in Boston’s infamous Orpheum Theater should do the trick… Raw oysters and clams at the Union Oyster House along with a few cold Whale Tail IPA’s from Nantucket will be a tasty way to start the night. Too bad we can’t see Gurf Morlix and Jim Lauderdale share the stage with LWs anytime soon… Oh well, Tonight the Bottle Let Me Down. It’s always great to see EC go through another phase in his career. Having Jerry Douglas and Jim Lauderdale as a part of this Sugarcanes touring outfit really is a one-of-a-kind tour experience complete with a full time squeeze box and stand-up bass. Yeah, even no drums, which is exceptionally difficult playing to a live audience. But he’s one of the best, that’s for sure. After seeing Elvis about 25-times over the past 30-years, it just gets better and better. Perhaps most impressive is Elvis Costello’s pension for guitars. Last night he broke out the 1958 Gretsch Tenor Guitar that he bought from one of Elvis Presely’s past axemen (a four-string super-country guit that does nothing else but scream twang!) His wiki fansite is off the hook as well (www.elviscostello.info). You can youtube a bit of last night here:

There’s a blue not in each song, that I sing since you’ve been gone–Blue must be the color of the blues![attachment=0:3trko2a6]2010-04-20_Boston2.jpg[/attachment:3trko2a6]
