In the spirit of lwj and his appreciation of all things video and audio, I too, want to share a phenomenal website, Woodsongs Radio Hour. I was in search of some video of my #5 favorite artist, who I refer to as boyfriend #2 ( I had a list of seven or eight but can’t remember them all now 😮 ) and remembered he had appeared on the Woodsongs Radio Show. This show also airs on XM radio AND for the past several years has embedded audio and video on a long list of amazing talent. Some of those include many artists talked about here in the friendly forum, including:

Neko Case, Justin Townes Earle, Carrie Rodriquez, Anne McCue, Jim Lauderdale, Bo Ramsey, Pieta Brown, Eileen Jewell, and some that I like including Over The Rhine, Stoll Vaughan, Griffin House, Pinetop Perkins, and Dave Alvin. You get the drift.

Check this out. Each show is an hour long, typically featuring 2 artists / bands along with the host, Michael Jonathan, singing a song or two. Quite frankly, Michael seems to be a little full of himself, just a little, so keep that in mind, however, I love the show format and the spirit of the show.

Be sure to scrool thru the Show List page. I would bet there is something for everyone to enjoy:

Phenomental is such an understatement. It’s a treasure chest of Folk and Americana music. Thanks Lafayette.
I often take road trips and have never been to Kentucky. So I’d love to snag a ticket at the historic Kentucky Theatre in Lexington to catch the Old Time Radio Hour.
The thing can be heard world wide on over 400 FM and internet stations and watched via podcasts.
Top quality hosted by Michael Johnathon and is much like PBS-member supported.

Naturally I scrolled thru their archives and one of my top 5 artists popped out. Kathleen Edwards.
For tntracy and other Kathleen fans, I’ve posted a link under her title in this Forum.

Even though we are now on Daylight Savings Time and I’m “semi-retired”, how am I going to cover all this music?

As I was scrolling through the archives, naturally, my thoughts were zoomed in on this very dilemna you face, knowing your appreciation of Youtube, podcasts, webisodes, etc. Enjoy, lwj, this site is truly a treasure trove of roots based music. 😀

P.S. In regards to your road trips, lwj, IF you are seriously considering visiting Lexington, you won’t be disappointed with the surrounding area, especially if you drive US 27 along the white fence lines and horse farms.

The Woodsongs shows tape on Monday nights, and the ticket price is typically $20 (5 years ago the price was $10, but I digress). The theater is very cool as you would expect, the type of ambiance Lu likes in theaters (but not with the seating).

If you ever want to visit, let me know, if I’m available, Lexington is less than 2 hours south of where I live. I noticed Jakob Dylan is scheduled to play April 12. Unfortunately, or in this case, FORTUNATELY, I have tickets for Amos Lee in Louisville on the 11th. Back to back trips don’t work for me, typically, HOWEVER, my husband is away on business for a week, leaving that day. Hmmmmmmm….

Seven or eight videos OR seven or eight boyfriends?

Thanks so much Lafayette for your thoughts. I know the “Friendly Forum” must have had a ball last September at the First Avenue Wedding. It seems as if I already know a lot of the posters on the Forum.

Here’s what I could do hypothetically speaking, for my Summer of 2010 road trip.

    1. Meet you in West Chester, help you finish the painting/wallpaper, go over for a tour of the WNKU Public Radio facilities.
    2. Proceed South for a Monday night gig in the Kentucky Theatre for the Woodsongs Radio Hour.
    3. Proceed almost due South to Atlanta, bring the bottle of Niagara, Ontario vino to Tntracy that I promised from the Kathleen Edwards thread ( although he never replied to my question. red or white wine )
    4. Have tntracy point me to Eddie’s Attic in Decatour for another gig.
    5. Swing way out West to Austin, attend a Cactus Club gig before the University closes the place.
    6. Head South-East to Crescent City, attend another gig at the HOB and enjoy a po’boy.
    7. Head East again and than South to Miami / Ft. Lauderdale and visit with friends. I lived there in the late ’90’s for a few years.
    8. North, back to Canada.
Should I be positive and go to my friendly CAA office ( same as the AAA) and get a trip Tik planning guide?
Kind of a dream trip for 2010 don’t you think?

I’d be happy to show you around WNKU, introduce you to my favorite afternoon music host and favorite marketing director! We could stop in at Main Strasse nearby for some grub before proceeding to Kentucky Theater.

It does sound like a dream road trip. I love road trips but am totally codependent on my GPS. I recently was in panic mode when it wasn’t working properly and I was trying to find a shopping mall 😯 to kill time while my son attended a seminar. It all worked out when I realized I needed to reboot.

Woodsongs had fallen off my radar, but thanks to your enthusiasm, it’s on!

I’m still a bit enthusiastic about the show simply because it featured 3 of my current Top 5 artists-namely Kathleen Edwards, Serena Ryder and Anne McCue. ( My other 2 are Lu and Arcade Fire )

I agree about the host-too rehearsed and almost phony.
Road trips can change. For example “What If” Lucinda gets her new album out by the summer and hits the road?

No GPS for me, my car has a compass and I prefer to pull over to the side of the road and pull out an old fashioned road map.
Thanks for your kind invite to WNKU.
