I was going to post this as a trivia question to keep that ball rolling, but it would be too easily researched on the Internet, so…
I was looking at Lu’s credits list at imdb.com (the Internet Movie Database), and I noticed something I had overlooked the previous times I have viewed this page. Lu has a movie credit other than soundtrack credits; i.e., she has actually appeared in a movie! It is a 1994 release called F.T.W. The credit is for a member of the “Carnival Band” (you need to click “more” at the end of the main credits list to see it). But, look who else is listed in the band: Gurf Morlix, the late, great Duane Jarvis, Donald Lindley – even Dr. John Ciambotti.
I’ve never heard of this film – has any one else? If you have seen it, is the band’s appearance prominent in the film, or just “in the background”. I’m going to have to see if I can find a copy…

Tnt-You sure know how to start the New Year with this puzzler.
I am totally confused by my “detective” work on this one.I have now seen 3 movie trailers-Nothing is making much sense.
The movie F.T.W. stands for “F***The World” or “Frank T. Wells” but also was marketed as “The Last Ride”
One trailer is about “choppers” ( motorcycles ), another is about a rodeo and yet a third goes back to 1944 on Turner Classic Movies.I did see the Carnival Band and Charlie Sexton listed.
I’ve got another 2 hours or so to continue the search before tuning in to The Sugar Bowl.@tntracy wrote:but it would be too easily researched on the Internet, so…
You gotta be kidding.
lwjP.S. I did find out that the 1994 movie is “R” rated

I meant the answer to “what movie did Lu appear in” would be too easily answered by simply visiting imdb.com (the “go to” site for all things movie-related). Finding a copy / trailer available online is a different issue! 😉
I’ve been looking for a copy of the movie on DVD to purchase. Amazon doesn’t carry it (it is OOP), but there are several VHS copies available (and affordable) in Amazon Marketplace. However, I’d much rather have a DVD.
There is a copy of the “rare” DVD available on eBay with a “Buy It Now” price of $90! 😯 I’ve found a cheaper source, though, but I’d like to know if it would be worth spending any money on at all (i.e., is Lu’s appearance in the film substantial or not?). I do like Mickey Rourke, however…
Tom
P.S. The movie with Lu & Company is definitely an R-rated, rodeo-themed movie from 1994, so you can ignore the others. And, FYI, I also verified that the movie is AKA “The Last Ride”…

Can’t find anything in the way of a video scene with Lu and the Carnival Band -other then “CWOAGR” seems to be the song.
Here is one reviewers comment on the movie.
” QuoteThe license plate on his car reads FTW 187. “187”, of course, is the criminal code for murder. And several years ago, Mickey Rourke made a movie called The Last Ride, which was filmed under the title F**k The World – check the initials. I wonder if this was supposed to be a joke or something intended by the producers or Rourke himself. By the way, The Last Ride, aside from some beautiful cinematography, is an awful movie. I rented it in South Korea while I was teaching there – and it had the original title F**k The World slapped proudly (in English) on the cover.
UPDATE: Morgan McNeely had this to say about it:
“‘FTW’ does mean ‘F**k the World’ but it’s an OLD biker slang thing. As in motorcyclists…the attitude of the one percenters & outlaw bikers…hence ‘FTW’….Rourke hardly invented that phrase & I doubt it is a reference to a movie he made but I believe Rourke is a biker, he rides in several movies…but FTW goes back to the 50’s at least” End Quote
I think we neeed some more help on this one-Perhaps “Drunken Angel” could join the investigation.
Meanwhile Gators / Bearcats are starting soon. ( I’m cheering for Lafayette of course )
lw.
P.S. Just to complicate things further, there is a new children’s type movie just released in 2009 with the same title.January 2, 2010 at 1:42 am #41901tntracyParticipant@LWjetta wrote:

And I’m rooting for the Bearcats because, as a Georgia Bulldogs fan, I don’t care much at all for Florida… 😉
And, to further stack the deck against the Gators from my perspective, I can’t stand Tim Tebow for some reason (although I do recognize & respect his great talent)…
Oh yeah, Lafayette makes it a trifecta for the Bearcats!

Yeah, but imdb.com lists this one movie separately as “Actress”, while all the other credits for songs only show up as “Soundtrack”. I’m looking forward to Lu’s response…

January 3, 2010 at 1:42 am #41904TOverbyParticipantYes- she did appear in this movie in the classic “band in the bar” scene. It was filmed in Montana and she happened to be coming thru on tour and the director was a fan so he asked if she could do the scene.

Now to find myself a copy for cheap!

January 4, 2010 at 5:09 pm #41906LWjettaParticipantNoticed the movie”Crazy Heart” starring Jeff Bridges has just been released.
Found out that Lucinda’s song “Joy” is on the sound track.
But this article from the NY Times shows her as a “song performer”.http://movies.nytimes.com/movie/454726/Crazy-Heart/credits
The movie has received rave reviews.

lwjLists her as both “Song” & “Song Performer”, in fact. But, I think that simply means that a) she wrote a song featured in the soundtrack and b) her performance of a song is featured in the soundtrack. Not that she actually appears.
Speaking of recent movies, we went & saw “Avatar” in 3D this weekend. Highly recommended. I am not a huge Si-Fi fan, but this movie was simply stunning. And, catch it in 3D if you can – it had been years since I had seen a 3D movie & the technology has improved (and the glasses are much more comfortable… 😉 )

I think you are correct-nice to see Lu’s music getting lots of exposure.
This movie is coming to my area soon. Seen the trailers. Just wondering in what scene we hear Lu sing “Joy”
Think I’ll go see it.

I just checked my local listings. It is showing in 3D. Tomorrow night for me to purchase a discount ticket as a senior. I notice other theaters only showing it in non-3D at a lesser price. i.e. a $3.00 premium to watch it in 3D. Do you get to keep the glasses?

lwjIn the theater I went to (a Regal Cinema location), we could – there was a recycle bin to place them in on the way out, but no one was there to make sure you put them in. I was surprised at the quality of the glasses (called “Real3D”) – plastic frames like sunglasses & lenses w/ good optical quality. The last 3D movie I saw (granted, it was 30 years ago), you got those glasses with cardboard frames (like you used to get at the eye doctor when they dilated your pupils) & one red lens & one blue lens. These glasses at “Avatar” had what looked like clear lenses.
