Has anyone else listened to this version of “Positively 4th Street” that Lucinda performs on this compilation?
Sounds like a new recording. She slows it down from earlier recordings she’s done. I really like it!

Yup, I have the CD & like Lu’s newest take on P4S. And it is indeed a new version, different from the one she recorded for the 1994 compilation, In Their Own Words, Vol. 1.

P.S. There are several other good tracks on The Village, IMHO…

Apparently, another admirer of Lu’s “Positively 4th Street” cover, as written:

    http://www.vueweekly.com/article.php?id=13928

“Authorship is merely some of the point of these kinds of records, which generally serve as a mixtape declaration of self-congratulatory taste that doubles-down on the references: “Not only do I dig Bob Dylan, I dig Lucinda Williams doing Dylan. Booyah!”

Weighing in with Dylan are heavies like Rickie Lee Jones, confident stylist Shelby Lynn and the aforementioned Williams, wielding little but her rough-diamond voice, liquid guitar and a big ol’ bag of hurt.”

…”her liquid guitar”. I love that analogy!
