This past Tuesday night, 10/20/09, Carrie Rodriguez and her band performed a brilliant show at the historic Hotel Utah Saloon in San Francisco. Built in 1908, the saloon has a sketchy past, as quoted from its website:

“Gamblers, thieves, ladies up to no good, politicians, hustlers, friends of opium, goldseekers, godseekers, charlatans, police, fancy miscreants — they all visited The Utah. And that was when South of Market was just a lonely section of the San Francisco waterfront.”

However, for this show, the audience were simply music-lovers, who enjoyed 2 hours of fine songs, for a worthy $10 admission, with Guinness (and other beer/wine) available for $4.

Carrie and her band are recording their new album in Berkeley, and this gig was an opportunity to perform old and new material before a live audience. The new album features covers of other songwriters, and the opening song for the night was Lucinda’s “Steal Your Love”.

A very refreshing evening of music, set in historic wooden furnishings, among walls that hold many stories.

Carrie has many dates on her calendar supporting her latest release of covers (as described by Paul) “Love and Circumstance.” Carrie has her tour itinerary posted AND you can listen to her version of “Steal Your Love” on her Myspace page http://www.myspace.com/carrieLrodriguez
