i’m posting this here because it’s to do with opening acts for lucinda shows, but it’s about other artists….
i was curious if anyone wanted to plug who they’d like to open for lucinda on this next tour. (obviously this would be if these bands could afford to go on tour, openers tend to be from the city of the venue)
most people here have a favorite local band that “hasn’t made it yet”.
i was hoping to expand my horizons, and these are the acts i favor.my FIRST choice would be Sara Petite and the Sugar Daddies (they’re based out of san diego)
second choice would be Dave Gleason (they both have myspaces)anyone else?

January 12, 2009 at 7:48 pm #38509TimParticipantLisa, my picks would be Carrie Rodriquez and Mike Stinson.
January 13, 2009 at 2:42 am #38510tonygKeymasterMike Stinson or Hayes Carll.
January 13, 2009 at 4:04 am #38511musicloverParticipantMy recommendation would be the Heartless Bastards. Saw them open for her at the Ryman, and then saw them at The Exit Inn. They are very good. Any news on the Buick 6 cd showing up for sale? 🙂

I discovered him when collecting all the Lu “Guest Appearances” – she sings a duet with him (“Devastation”) on his album Concussion. I liked that album enough to get another of his, Regret Over the Wires, and I like that CD even better – very good stuff.

P.S. I got Regret Over the Wires on eBay brand new for $4.99 + $3.00 shipping. The same seller has another one for the same “Buy It Now” price (or, you can try your luck bidding – starting bid is $0.99). If anyone is interested, here is a link.
January 13, 2009 at 1:25 pm #38513LeftyParticipantNick Lowe!
Leonard Cohen!
Ian Hunter!
Steve Gibbons!
😉January 13, 2009 at 2:05 pm #38514TimParticipantI like everyone’s choices out here. Lefty, it’s very doubtful that Lucinda would have your first three choices as an opening act. It would cost her too much.
January 13, 2009 at 3:27 pm #38515tonygKeymasterOne more: Ann McCue!
January 13, 2009 at 4:43 pm #38516TimParticipantGreat choice, Tony! She recently released a new album that she plays most of the instruments on.
January 14, 2009 at 7:59 am #38517LafayetteParticipantJJ Grey & Mofro, David Jacobs-Strain, Mike Younger, or Stoll Vaughan would be my choices. Solid performers perfectly suited for Lu as an opening act.
January 14, 2009 at 10:45 am #38518DavidinMaineParticipantPieta Brown, Ruthie Foster, Crooked Still, Steep Canyon Rangers, Todd Snider, Susan Tedeschi, Old Crow Medicine Show, Wayne “The Train” Hancock, Joe Henry, Mary Gauthier, Badly Drawn Boy, Drive-By Truckers, Dale Watson, Bobby Bare, Jr.
January 14, 2009 at 12:58 pm #38519visionsParticipantGiven the choice, I’d rather just have Lu play a bit longer, especially in a curfewed venue. But if we have to have an opener, Kasey Chambers did a nice job opening for Lu a number of years back.
January 14, 2009 at 2:24 pm #38520rachel8375ParticipantCharlie Louvin. Caught him at the Alabama Theater when he opened for her in Birmingham last time, and he was wonderful. That said, I’m looking forward to seeing Buick 6.
January 14, 2009 at 3:46 pm #38521stellablueeeParticipantall great replies, thanks…….BUT…….I was more interested in hearing about your local favorites, people who haven’t ever played with lucinda. people who you go to support in your local homebars.
great choices tho……
lisaJanuary 14, 2009 at 6:51 pm #38522tntracyParticipantOh, sorry. Local choice? For me, here in the Atlanta area, that would definitely be “Moanin'” Michelle Malone. Always a good show… 😉
