I thought this might be a fun thing to do, if not embarrassing! Anyone remember the Canadian Rock Band Triumph? It was 1979, Kleinhans Music Hall in Buffalo, New York. I was 14 years old, and my mom dropped us off at the show, and picked us up afterwards. The wonder years indeed. My wife wanted all of you to know that her first concert was Shaun Cassidy. That’s right, Shaun Cassidy at the peek of his powers… Da Doo Ron Ron.

We were up in the rafters at the Garden. Remember sitting next to some guy with huge platform shoes that had sequined butterflies on them. He kept screaming, “Fix the f**king sound!” the whole time Purple played. Elephant’s Memory opened for Focus; they were a one-time back-up band for Lennon. When EM started playing, some guy up front started throwing peanuts into the crowd.

The Kiki Dee Band opened. “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me”, indeed…
And, yes, I do indeed remember Triumph! 😉

It was possibly J. Geils Band at Schaefer Stadium in Foxboro on July 23, 1973. Openers were Pousette-Dart Band and also the Mahavishnu Orchestra.
It’s easier to remember my last concert: Roger McGuinn last Friday at Pepperdine University.

December 8, 2008 at 11:05 pm #38340AnonymousInactiveIt was 90 minutes of him telling stories and playing songs. Some of thge songs he didn’t even play all of the way through. It was 99% old stuff. It was still enjoyable though.
He was solo except for 2 songs Tom Petty sat in on.

I was 15 and my parents let me go with my friend’s older brothers – were you nuts mom and dad? Journey and Peter Tosh, among others (Asbury Jukes?) were the warm up bands. It was a hot day in August, and Mick brought out and straddled a fire hose spraying the crowd to cool them off during Jumping Jack Flash. It was a gas gas gas. It was an all day concert laced with lots of interesting smelling substances.
December 9, 2008 at 8:04 pm #38342PhilthyParticipantThe Here And Now Band – a bunch of anarchist, hippy-punks that used to tour incessantly and play free gigs all over the country. At 16, the ‘free’ part of that description was especially welcome! They were very good too, extremely polished after about 5 years of constant touring. First gig I paid to see was Hawkwind at Leicester DeMontfort Hall. Same year – 1978.
