By “rare”, I mean songs she has written or performed on a compilation disc, but rarely performed live.
For example “Lafayette” from “Happy Woman Blues” OR “Gentle On My Mind” from “Talladega Nights”Mine are (in no particular order):
1. Hang Down Your Head “World Without Tears Bonus Track”
2. Howling At Midnight “Happy Woman Blues”
3. Gentle On My Mind (Talladega Nights)
4. Satisfied Mind “Ramblin'”
5. Two of Us (Lucinda and Doug)
6. Cold, Cold Heart “Tribute to Hank Williams”
7. Like A Rose “Lucinda Williams”
8. Nothin’ “Tribute to Townes Van Zandt”
9. Memphis Pearl “Sweet Old World”
10. He Never Got Enough Love “Sweet Old World”November 11, 2008 at 11:12 am #38137DavidinMaineParticipantI would like to hear anything pre-CWOGR. Seriously. Real Love and Honey Bee, etc just don’t hold up to the lyrics/music/emotionality when held side-to-side. It will be interesting to see the responses err-flame responses from the cheerleaders…

Her dress don’t hide her age
Not like mama said it would
And her smile fades away
Just like daddy said it couldNo, things don’t come so easy
Not when you turn twenty five
And to blow out the candles
Takes a pill of concentrationI can’t look inside her eyes
I can’t kiss her perfect lips
I can’t whisper in her ears
And take her far away from thisPyramid of tears
Pyramid of tears
Pyramid of tears, I see you cryI can’t hold her tight enough
Not to steal away the pain
I can’t look into her eyes
And tell her everything’s okayNo, she’s not tired, she’s just older
And she’s lost the will to fly
I can’t whisper in her ears
And tell her everything’s alrightPyramid of tears

Pyramid of tears, I see you cryNovember 11, 2008 at 10:58 pm #38140CliveDankoParticipantI would love for her to bust out these real oldies:
1.) This is not my town
2.) Song for a Jewerly Maker
3.) All I wantOut of those 3 I really think she should record “This is not my town” on an upcoming record, it’s that good.
From stuff she didn’t write, I agree with those that have been mentioned already.
1.) Lately
2.) Nothin’
3.) Pyramid of Tears
4.) You Don’t Have Very Far To Go
plenty of othersFactory Blues, Am I too Blue, Memphis Pearl, Hot Blood, Sharp Cutting Wings would all be great as well.
Having trouble thinking off the top of my head right now….

I am not entirely sure if she wrote this song. anyone know?
November 13, 2008 at 3:50 am #38139stevarinoParticipanttroberts, gravelroads,
The last song of the KOCH release of the Rought Trade self titled album is simply listed as Sundays (plaural). The first line of the song is “I can’t seem to make it through Sunday” (singular), which is also how she sings it. So whatever you want to call it, we know what you mean. I love this song too.
Oh, and Lucinda is credited with writing the song.

November 16, 2008 at 2:35 am #38143Disco StuParticipantAll I Want. I have a few different recordings of it, from 1980 to 1993, and I would rank it up there with anything else she’s written; certainly, it’s my favorite song that has not shown up on an album.
Given that she looked back to the ’80s for two songs on Little Honey, and that she’s brought back a lot of other older songs that hadn’t been played in a while, I think this one merits another look.
Other than that, I’d love to hear just about anything. Still haven’t caught a cover of Masters of War, which would be great. Cold, Cold Heart was (I think) the first Lucinda song I ever heard, and that would be great to hear in concert. Also, I was just listening to the Rough Trade album last weekend and forgot how much I like Sundays.

“Nothing” features the vocals of Lucinda Williams. This song, which is about the troubles of life, is one of those goose bump-raising tunes. “Sorrow And Solitude, These are the precious things and the only words that are worth remembering,” Lucinda sings mournfully.
Let’s have a listen to this one just uploaded.

Maybe Tom O could convince Lu to do this very haunting song on Fall Tour 2011.lwj

Or perhaps the upcoming European tour!
Always loved this version and have just stumbled across this thread while trying to find out who’s playing the slide guitar on it, the sleevenotes don’t seem to say who it is.
Is it Doug or perhaps Colin Linden who’s co-credited as the track’s producer with Lucinda, anyone know?
Thanks

She once fended off a shouted request of that with something like “people don’t realize how hard that one is to play.” But we can still hope. . . .
February 28, 2013 at 5:05 pm #38148vinylfanParticipantI am sure it’s a hard one. Perhaps a Bridge School Benefit when David Crosby is around they could give it a shot…
I’d also like to hear her try $1,000 Wedding. Seems right up her alley.
February 28, 2013 at 5:37 pm #38149tonygKeymasterWeirdly, I witnessed a live performance of “Return of the Greivous Angel” last night at Zoeys in Ventura by a band called Calico The Band, with Doug Pettibone on pedal steel. Calico The Band is comprised of 3 female singers/guitarists and will be at SXSW in March. Anyone attending should check these ladies out as they were tremendous. 😀
March 4, 2013 at 8:20 pm #38150punchdrunkloveParticipantmama you sweet, i guess. but i’d never ask her to perform it, because it seems like such an emotional song, and i respect that.
