Lucinda & the band put on a real good show. They mixed the setlist up and seemed to have fun. The Egg was not sold out like last year, but still a good crowd. Mr Pettibone’s talent on guitar is astounding. It’s inspiring to see someone with such skills continue to improve them. On to Boston!October 8, 2008 at 1:11 pm #37480TimParticipanthttp://blogs.timesunion.com/reviews/?p=513
October 8, 2008 at 2:04 pm #37481LeftyParticipantThanks for checking in, Tim.
I’m surprised The Egg wasn’t full.
Maybe people are forced to choose food & shelter over music.October 8, 2008 at 2:25 pm #37482AnonymousInactiveGood stuff. What a great opener.

No doubt. “Side of the Road”. I’m jealous as hell.

October 8, 2008 at 5:42 pm #37484kenkParticipantI’ve seen Lucinda four times over the past ten years. The Egg show was truly dissapointing. Maybe because I was sitting in the second row and able to see everything that went on on the stage; but I disagree the band had a good time. The band did not smile once. The band did not have one exchange with Lu the entire night unless you count the time Pettibone told her to move the capo to the correct fret. Oh and this starting a song over should not be happening. I attend dozens of live shows every year, have for over 35 years. The last time I saw Lu was the last time I saw a song re-started. I think the guys are just going through the motions. They are truly professionals and the quality of the music proved that last night. Problem is there was no emotion, no fun on the stage or coming from the stage.
Buick 6 was good and they looked like they were having fun. Once Lu got on the stage the fun ended.
Lu don’t worry I love your music and will continue to buy your records but it will be quite a while before I see you live again, if ever.October 8, 2008 at 7:27 pm #37485clintonctParticipantHey Tim and Lefty,
Glad I made the trek up from CT.
When is release date for the Buick 6 album? They were excellent.
Lucinda was in a sweet rocking mood in New Haven, maybe because being Tom’s birthday, thanking fans for coming out and spending our hard earned money, but thought she enjoyed Albany, and commented what a great venue The Egg is 4-5 times.
Feel starting with REAL LOVE would have worked better for the audience as a whole, but I loved the set-list. I find her fascinating, never knowing where she will take us or if we are going to be invited along, but I always try to remember her words, that she is an artist and not a performer, and for me, there is no one like her. Ken, I’m sorry the live performance didn’t work for you.
LITTLE ROCK STAR slays me, and this was the first time hearing RARITY, which has so many layers. Can not wait for Tuesday’s LITTLE HONEY release. I missed JAILHOUSE TEARS, and the interaction with Dougie, but maybe next time, but ATONEMENT pushed my buttons. And her encore, starting with Skip James was intense.
That’s it for live Lucinda for me this leg of the tour. Hopefully she will return to the Newport Folk Festival next summer, for Fifty Years of Folk at Newport, and will bring along Elvis for JAILHOUSE TEARS live, and Steve Earle, facing an adoring audience and being part of Newport history!

October 8, 2008 at 7:38 pm #37486stogerParticipantThanks, Tim, for a solid report. It would seem as if tunes from West were deliberately put back in, at least for this show (despite the usual lone one of late, “Come On,” not being done). “Side of the Road” might have been a response to one of the streams in this Forum, but “Rarity” sneaking its way in is my main envy for those of you who made Albany. Looking forward to your Beantown account. . .
October 8, 2008 at 11:43 pm #37487Inside JobParticipantThe setlist was just Lucinda wanting to change some things up, which she will keep doing as things get added in to the “ready to play list” -nothing to do with the discussions here. With the exception of the new songs which she is loving playing, she really doesn’t consider which album something is on. Its more about how particular group of songs fit together.
October 9, 2008 at 1:29 am #37488LeftyParticipant“…nothing to do with the discussions here.”
Ouch! That may be so, IJ, but please don’t burst our bubble! Fans like to fan-tasize that they somehow/someway hold some sway over the artist.
October 9, 2008 at 12:24 pm #37489DavidinMaineParticipantWow. I agree Lefty and IJ/TomO to be honest with you, my “BS detector” goes off when I read your posting. A few markers are of concern here: Many of us are silently protesting vis-a-vis not attending concerts. Many others are not in love, as you are, with LWs new material. Ticket sales are down. I would be stressed, too, with the release of Little Honey looming and in the shadow of the big sales of Essence and GWOGR (West not being all that strong?). It appears that lots of money could be potentially on the line in terms of LH projected sales. Maybe such tension would explain the over-talking approach you sometimes bring to the discussions. Finally, Real Love cannot be held in the same light as Right in Time, I Envy the Wind, CWOGR let alone the classics such as Side of the Road, Big Red Sun Blues, Lake Charles or the beast of them all Sharp-Cutting Wings (Song to a Poet). I love hearing LWs voice through and in her music not through others on this discussion board…
October 9, 2008 at 2:46 pm #37490AnonymousInactiveNegative, maybe? The records not out yet. Let’s give it a chance. So what if it isn’t Car Wheels? She already did that. And IJ’s post was quite harmless.
October 10, 2008 at 12:56 am #37491RainydaymanParticipantI’m loving the new material.
