I went and managed to get front and center. She was introducing a new song, and I’m the guy who shouted out ‘Honey Bee’ and she laughed and said something like, “we’ll do that too, but we’re working our way up to Honey Bee.”
It was a fun night, and a good show (only my 2nd so I can’t really compare to others all that much), but this show, on an early Sat. evening, found Lu and the band rocking pretty good for much of the 1.25 hour set. Several new tracks featured (Little Rock Star, Honey Bee – still as good as I remember it from Austin City Limits last year, and Real Love, which she may have opened with).
Joy found the band really jamming at the end. Her 3 song encore began with a song (not sure which one – an early one she said they don’t play often) for a couple that had gotten married there that day, then a really good Are You Down and then a version of (of all things!) AC/DC’s It’s A Long Way to the Top – which didn’t quite work imo, but they seemed to enjoy it – as I think they did the entire show. From what I could tell, Lucinda was in good spirits – making mention of how honored she was to play after Mavis Staples (who was great).
Other ones I recall for sure her doing were Bleeding Fingers and Broken Guitar Strings, Drunken Angel, and Come On.
So yeah – it was a very nice setting to see her – if you wanted to get close, you could…Sound was fantastic, the band was superb – very glad I went!
