I’m not a mental giant, and misinterpret lyrics all the time.

My interpretation of a “Metal Firecracker” is a mobile home/RV.

Am I correct or a moron?

    Maybe both.

I think you’re just about right on. It’s about a tour bus.

I seem to remember this question being asked long ago before the website changed a few years back. If I recall correctly it was the late SonO (RIP) who said that the ‘metal firecracker’ was a yellow ‘El Camino’ with red pin stripes. Lu and her beau at the time (I’m drawing a blank on that one) would cruise all over creation in it. Anybody else remember that ?

The version you relate, A-I-A, is much more appealing to me than one involving a tour bus.

This is what I have heard before and the conclusion I made between this song and the verse from “Lake Charles” that says “We used to drive through Lafayette n’ Baton Rouge, in a yellow El Camino, listening Howlin’ Wolfe…”

With all due respect, “Metal Firecracker” is about a tour bus. I’ve heard this from Lucinda’s mouth at a number of shows. The El Camino noted is mentioned in “Lake Charles”.

Fair enough Tim. I’ll see if I can confirm (through the benefit of leather lungs) this Friday. Either way, ‘Metal Firecracker’ is my favorite Lucinda tune. Don’t tell anybody the secrets I told you. Say, maybe I’ll hang out at her tour bus….

All I Ask, it is a great song. They haven’t been doing it much the last couple years. It was her boyfriend at the time who was on the bus with her, and said something like, “I can’t wait to get off of this metal firecracker.” Then she wrote the song with that title.
