What’s John Mellencamp ever done to you?,that you show such disrespect for, I am all for free speech but you do it no favours by saying such things.

… sitting there across the pond. Do you plan on flying over to catch any of these shows in the States? With the favorable exchange rate you’d be able to get in for almost half price. And if you don’t have a current passport, I’m sure your laminated John Cougar Mellencamp Scottish Fan Club Card (the one with little pink houses on it) will work just as well. Are you the chapter President? Hey…wait a minute; JCM is in the Rock’n Roll Hall of Fame! So I guess the pairing could’ve been worse, like Lu opening for Barry Manilow. (A Quadruple Yuk! vs. Double Yuk!)

To answer all your questions in one word “No”, also I can see you are/were hurt by my statement, judging by your reply, maybe next time you will think twice about saying such statements(as per your first post), but in this case sadly I think not, on a personal note, I think your petulant answer shows all members who look at this post really what kind of person we are dealing with, so in saying that I am confident they will understand when I say that as far as I am concernd I feel it would be pointless to answer any more in this matter.

Johnnymellencougercamp, er mellencamp, is OK, but I can’t get rid of the visual of him hawking Chevy trucks; sadly, that’s what comes to mind these days. “Ain’t that America” indeed. 🙄

Thankfully for us in New England there is the Lowell show she’s headlining for $30. The two shows she opens in Boston for the Ford Truck commercial guy tickets are $60-$125 plus fees. That’s a little to pricey for this american fool.

I saw him at Farm Aid 2006 and liked his set … but of course it is for Lu that I bought tickets.
I have an extra pair (edit: SOLD).

she did some gigs with John Fogerty a couple years ago which i was tempted to catch in santa barbara, but a little too pricey for my blood.

I’m totally with you on this one Pit Bull. We have been waiting for Lucinda to come to Australia for years (she has unfortunatley had to postpone two tours during the last five years – one of which I had front row seats!) and to hear that she is supporting that boof head astouds me. In fact hearing that she is supporting anybody beggars belief. She’s beyond that surely. Who’s managing her?

While you couldn’t pay me enough to see JCM, he does have a lot of fans and opening for him is going to expose a lot of new people to Lucinda’s music, which is good for her and ultimately good for us.

opening for jcm will expose her to very few new fans.
regardless of how we feel, the vast majority of people
are there to see jcm and will walk in at 830, long after she’s
    left the stage

conversely, since i will be leaving for vacation at 430 a.m. the
next day, i will be walking OUT of the pnc arts center about
2 minutes after lw leaves the stage.

jcm has some good/great tunes, puts on a pleasant show.
    i’ll take the sleep.

I saw Lucinda open for Neil Young at a couple of venues in 2003 and most of the “Young Heads” were too busy getting their buzz-on to pay any attention to Ms. Williams’ “get it up, get it on, and get the hell off” 50-minute performance. She and the band were fine, but they were kinda like playing to an audience that was in a chemically induced mental and cultural vacuum. Then these same boozing-bozos started booing Neil for not playing his old songs! He was performing Greendale at the time. A body of work I happen to like for a variety of reasons. But my point is this, I thought Neil’s fans would have been a little more receptive and appreciative of Lucinda’s music, instead it seemed that many (or at least a vocal minority) just came to hear Neil’s old stuff. It was almost as if something new and literate was too much for their liquor soaked, lemming-size brains to comprehend. So, to quote Ricky Nelson, “If you gotta play at garden parties, I wish you a lotta luck But if memories were all I sang, I rather drive a truck… lot-dah-dah-dah (lot-dah-dah-dah) lot-in-dah-dah-dah.”

P.S. As an addendum, I would like to say that EMEK’s amazing guitar-snake poster for Neil and Lucinda’s concert at The Greek Theatre in LA is one for the ages. You can view it at: http://www.emek.net/posters/n/neilyoung.html

Ok– I just can’t resist anymore.
To answer your question Hullsy–I am.
To Pitbull — I’m really curious how you “know” that the suits on her mannagement team are trying to broaden her audience. Did we have a conversation about it, I’m sorry I don’t recall it.
But mostly, I am very amused by your use of the word “suits”– first, because I have had a lifelong aversion to actually wearing them, and second, I noticed that it is plural -which must mean that I am quadrophrenic and all of my personalities that make up the management “team” are sartorially gifted. I’ll take it as a compliment.

Now in regards to the opening slot for Mr. Mellencamp. Not that it needs defending in any way, and my response here is in no way an attempt to-because just the idea that it needs defending is ridiculous but enough about that. I am responding because I don’t think there is any harm in me sharing what the thought process was, because, while many things go into these types of decisions, in the end it was very simple. John is a big fan of Lucinda’s (and covered her song Lafayette) and I know for a fact that he has wanted her to open for him for several years. When a longtime fan and member of the RRHOF asks you to open for him–that is an honor and above all else shows his true respect for Lucinda. Whether you love his music or hate his music, his career and his ability to sustain over time in an ever more difficult and shrinking music business, just like Lucinda, is undeniable. He deserves the respect back that he has shown Lucinda-and the evidence of that respect is very apparent in the space he has given Lucinda in the fullpage ads he has taken out the biggest newpapers in this country. It was incredible to see that. He didn’t have to that. That’s class.

And lastly– Pit Bull– I have to agree with you about the Emek poster- it’s very cool– in fact I thought it was so cool that I gave a signed and numbered print of it to Lucinda for Christmas this past year. Now if we could just find the time to get it framed…

Oh yeah -the new record- to answer a question from another thread–it doesn’t have a name yet but it has been the hot topic of discussion for the last few days because it has to be decided soon. Is one of the titles in contention one that has been considered before? Maybe.
The record was mastered yesterday and beyond all the great songs it is a fantastic sounding record -(even better than West) -for those of you that care about sound quality. She is very excited about it. I think you can expect it in early to mid -Sept., but I promise it won’t go any later than that.
Danny Clinch, the great photographer who shot the cover of World Without Tears (and all of Bruce’s recent records among others), will be doing a photoshoot next week with with Lu. Should be great.

Thanks for all the love and support of Lucinda. It is appreciated more than you could ever know.
One more thing–we are hoping to make some improvements to website etc. in the coming months- we have some cool ideas, but I would welcome any suggestions on how to make the site better–and anything else for that matter.
Now I gotta get back to work and work on the rest of the tour, among other things, so we can come see you this year (and next probably).
Who put a quarter in me. I knew I should’ve left all this to IJ.

    Rock on,
    Tom

PS –Keep an eye out for the new Tim Easton record also probably coming in Sept. – it is a really great record

Thanks for your response, Tom. Hopefully it will put an end to these preposterous comments about Lucinda’s tour with John Mellencamp. It is surprising that people have the audacity to bitch about Lucinda’s tour choices on this forum. She obviously has a rhyme and reason for what she does, and I would imagine one that is well considered. Not to mention, John Mellencamp is great! But, like Tom said, justification is not necessary…
