I was listening to a compilation of Dusty Springfield songs the other day when it struck me that Goin’ back would make a great cover by Lu. It has just the right kind of hard-earned wisdom that Lu often has in her songs. Maybe as a b-side? Does anyone agree or do they know of another track she could cover?
Probably not the best time to do a Dusty cover given that labelmate Shelby Lynn just did an entire album of Dusty songs. Good topic considering there is a very surprising cover that has been done for the new record, and will almost for sure make the cut from what i’m told. It is quite different from the original and far surpasses it, which is the key to a great cover. But it would be interesting to see what cover songs suggestions would come up here.
I’m told it coming this year -but was not given a release date. The Imus Children’s Fund benefit cd that Lucinda sings “Mama Don’t Let Your Babies Be Cowboy” is coming on 5/27.
I didn’t see the movie it was in but I gather LW did a cover of something on Talledega Nights. What was the song? I would like to hear it but I would never watch that movie.
Everybody shouldcover Goin’ Back, it’s truly fab. I’ve got Nils Lofgren, The Icicle Works and Jon Bon Jovi to name but a few, and I can’t get enough versions of it.
Is that the same “Goin’ Back” the Byrds covered on The Notorious Byrd Brothers? If so- great song, with some nice pedal steel (hint to Doug Pettibone). If it’s different- she could cover both.

Certainly is – A Carole King / Gerry Goffin composition that I agree would be perfect for a LW cover – Dusty even sounds a little like her on the song imho.
