Great to see the historic old Longhorn Ballroom come back to life last night. This structure was a second home to Bob Wills and the Playboys back in the day, and boasts a mural outside to document this. In the seventies it was one of a handfull of stops for the Sex Pistols on their US tour. Now the gracious Lucinda Williams.
Grilling tacos filled the air as we entered and came to rest in the beer line. Finding a great table was simple and we settled in for a real treat. Ms. Williams was absolutely fantastic. Her set list was a great mix of past and present with a couple of surprises. I almost wanted to load up in the car and chase her down to Austin and see her again at the ACL. I felt she really showcased her band in the last few songs of the original set. Wow, are they good.
Sorry to just be going on but, it was a really great night and well…I can hardly wait for another.

The show was great! I think it’s the best I’ve ever heard her sound. Really comfortable surroundings in that historic location. My husband and I sat three rows back in the section up front but the people sitting in the section with the tables seemed to have a good view as well.

“Jailhouse Tears” and “Honeybee” were especially good. The bars of the Doors “Riders on the Storm” during “Joy” was an unexpected surprise. We’re trying to remember what she opened with?

Also great performance by opening act Fione Regan despite the technical difficulties….

I think the show opened with Everything Has Changed.

Over the last few years Ive seen Lucinda almost every time she has played Dallas. After EVERY show I too want to hop in my car and go to the next one. Last night was no exception. The encore’s rendition of Unsuffer Me was nothing short of hair-raising, heart-stopping, gut-wrenching, thought provoking and goose bump-making, in a word, phenomenal.

I relate to Lucinda’s songs better than I do to most people. No pretension. No bullshit. Just a girl and a guitar. When the guitar is Lucinda’s the result is pure genius.

Hmmmm, I really think I have work in New York next week! Road trip anyone?

Props to Mike S for bringing in another a great show, and even more props for doing it at the Longhorn

Lucinda was hotter than hot, the band was tight, and what can you say about the acoustics in the Longhorn Ballroom. Even Lucinda commented after the first song on how great the room sounded. I can’t think of a better place for the next live album… How ’bout it, Lucinda???

Can anyone please tell how long Lucinda played and offer a complete set list? I agree with everything that has been posted here about the show and her performance. I have seen her at least 10 times over the years and she seemed more open and in tune with the crowd than ever before and i have never heard a room sound better sense the Caravan of Dreams closed it’s doors in Fort Worth. I hated to have to leave the gig but at about a hour into the show a family emergency came up.

I taped the show and will be sharing what i captured on dimeadozen.org later this week but i would love to know what i missed and hopefully a complete recording will surface.

I was at the show, but I did not write-down the setlist. To the list above, I can add from memory the following songs: Drunken Angel, Jailhouse Tears, Honey Bee, Ode to Billy Joe, Joy, and Unsuffer Me. I think she played until almost 11:30 PM.

    Thanks for the info Paul.

Here is a one of my all time favorite Lucinda songs as a sample of what i captured; “Over Time”. Please pay attention to the emotion and inflection in her voice on this track and your sure to understand what we the audience were treated to.

At the end of the song Lucinda once again gets excited about what she is hearing from the room and you can hear it in her voice.

This was truly one inspired and amazing performance!

    enjoy the track!

Hey great show at The Longhorn second best I’ve seen this year, the best was at Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa, similar venue ,NO SEATS on the dance floor much more energy, much more fun !!!(and Doug was more blazin that night!!!) anyway….another song nobody has mentioned “Big Red Sun Blues” excellent ! hadn’t heard it in years, sounded really fresh, as she said it’s great to have “dusted off ” a bunch of the old stuff. It was an excellent acoustic venue and the band seems to be getting tighter and tighter, thinking of visiting my brother in London in November, hmmmm. Oh yeah there was also a pretty raunchy version of “Come On” 😀

I was at the Cain’s Ballroom show. That was the best Lucinda show out of the 6 I’ve been too. Wish I could have made it to the Dallas show.
