Lucinda Williams to perform Sept. 20 in honor of her father, Miller
Northwest Arkansas Times
Posted on Tuesday, July 31, 2007Grammy Award winner Lucinda Williams is set to hold a concert on Sept. 20 in honor of her father, Miller Williams. All proceeds from the concert, set for 8 p. m. at the Walton Arts Center, Fayetteville, will be used to endow the Miller Williams Poetry Prize at the University of Arkansas Press.
Tickets go on sale Aug. 15 and are priced at $250, $100, $65 and $35. To order tickets, call the Walton Arts Center’s box office at 443-5600.
Miller Williams was born in the north Arkansas hills in 1930 and became known as an American contemporary poet by the 1960s. He has authored more than 25 books and won numerous awards for his poetry, and read one of his poems at President Bill Clinton’s 1997 inauguration. Williams was the first director of the University of Arkansas Press where he established its place in the field of contemporary poetry. He is currently a professor emeritus of literature at the university.
Lucinda Williams, who grew up in Fayetteville, began playing guitar at the age of 12. Her song, “ Passionate Kisses, ” was recorded by Mary Chapin Carpenter in 1992 and won Williams her first Grammy. Her 1998 album, Car Wheels on a Gravel Road, won another Grammy for Best Contemporary Folk Album.
Do you get to sit on stage next to Doug if you buy a $250 ticket? 😉

August 5, 2007 at 7:01 pm #33047EssenceParticipantJust want to say that the place where the concert is is on a pretty cute, cool little street in Fayetteville, where it would be fun to hang out afterwards. Pretty expensive tix though…considering we could stand in the “front row” for about $25 each in St. Louis. Still, it’s always a good cause when it’s for poetry!
August 8, 2007 at 3:30 pm #33048stogerParticipantThanks you three for your comments: wouldn’t have known about this so soon were it not for Lefty’s post. Indeed one can pick a seat on the venue’s website, and I opted for fifth row, i.e., closest one hundred buck perch, for the cause of poetry. Couldn’t see going a quarter of a grand, quite. I found myself wondering which black dot represents paul from los angeles: see you there? Now back to some troll-feeding (not really). . .
