After the beautiful indoor concert in Seattle (see “Great Seattle Show” thread), Lucinda journeyed the following evening to the site of her 2005 Vancouver concert, the rustic Malkin Bowl in Stanley Park. Obviously, Stanley Park is a beautiful paradise on a sunny afternoon or balmy summer evening. Unfortunately, Lucinda was not playing in those conditions–she was playing outdoors on a chilly, overcast night, with showers lurking in the forecast. Still, with “Rain or Shine” on the tickets, the crowd arrived, prepared with jackets, vests, and ponchos.
The show began with this setlist:
1. Rescue
2. Ventura
3. Fruits of My Labor
4. Pineola
5. Drunken Angel
6. Fancy Funeral
7. Still I Long For Your Kiss
At this point, Lucinda repeated her 2005 initiative, asking the “too polite” audience to stand and dance in the pit area, about 20 feet of open grass in front of the seats. This was great for those of us anticipating the announcement–not so great for the unexpected who had their frontline seats now blocked by the throng of standees.
Anyway, the show rocked-on, with:
8. Righteously
9. Come On
10. Essence
11. Unsuffer Me
12. Honeybee
13. Joy
As Joy was ending, a light rain began to fall. The Malkin Bowl has a roof, but the roof only covers the middle and rear of the stage–the front is exposed to the elements. So, while the musicians left the stage to freshen for the encore, Lucinda’s crew moved the microphones, monitors, and Doug’s pedal boxes out of the rain, back under the protected area of the stage.
With the equipment moved, Lucinda returned for the encore set, and performed (14) Disgusted. She then announced (15) Get Right With God–however, after the first few notes, the rain showers increased heavily, and Lucinda announced the show was ending, for safety reasons from electrocution.
Of course, 15 minutes later, the rain ended, but to no avail–the show had ended. Fortunately, we got 14 songs before stoppage.
