…exactly what that instrument Carrie Rodriguez was playing is called? It looked like a small guitar, but it sounded like a mandolin and looked like it had 8 strings.

We saw her at the Tin Angel in Philadelphia. She was playing an electric mandolin but it only had 4 strings. The fingering is the same as a fiddle so it must have been an easy transition for her. By the way, she is great in person.
