Wow, what a night. I was born on 4/20 in 1958 and had probably one of the best birthday gifts I have ever had in my life. I stood on the floor and was mesmerized by the show. I actually had a feeling of euphoria come over me and take me to place I haven’t visited in long, long time. Thank you Lucinda for making my last birthday in my 40’s the most memorable birthday of all. 😀

I was right there with you rockindon!! Talk about raw perfection and class!I loved that she took a risk and started both songs over after the “crack”. It usually takes her a song or two to get warmed up for a show. I think she let loose for us columbus rock and rollers. As with anything great, she just gets better with age.
Damn…I’m falling in love again
Peace,
Riv

living in a world without tearsApril 21, 2007 at 4:41 pm #32647stogerParticipantThanks: best I can tell, this was the first hearing on the tour for “Something About What Happens. . .” and “I Envy the Wind.”
April 21, 2007 at 8:57 pm #32648ChuckSParticipantIt was a decent show in Columbus last night, at the Lifestyle Communities “Pavilion”. It’s a rather unique venue. The stage straddles the wall of a building – in the summer, performers face outside, otherwise they face inside. Inside, there is a standing-only floor, but we opted for seats along a rail the equivalent of about a dozens rows back, more or less center, several feet above the floor. It sounded just fine there, and we had a nice view.
It wasn’t the greatest Lucinda Williams performance I’ve ever seen (she botched and restarted the first two songs), but it was a pretty good 110 minutes. She seemed to be having a good time.
Lucinda Williams – vocals, guitar
Doug Pettibone – guitar, pedal steel
David Sutton – electric bass, electric upright bass (I’m not 100% sure about him – I couldn’t hear her intro)
Butch Norton – drums
Carrie Rodriguez – fiddle, from Essence to end of showRescue
Ventura
Fruits of My Labor
Pineola
Drunken Angel
Right on Time
Out of Touch
Still I Long For Your Kiss
Righteously
Come On
Change the Locks
Essence
Unsuffer Me
Atonement
Get Right With GodEverything Has Changed
I Envy the Wind
Something About What Happens When We Talk
Real Live Bleeding Fingers and Broken Guitar StringsThe encore was nice. The first song was performed by the trio of Lucinda on acoustic guitar, Carrie on fiddle, and “David” on electric standup bass. They were joined (softly) by Doug and Butch for the next song, then “David” switched back to electric bass for a rowdier finish.
Carrie Rodriguez opened the evening with a very nice hour-long set.
Carrie Rodriguez – vocals, fiddle, “guitar” (some sort of small guitar with lots of strings, sounded somewhat like a mandolin)
Hans Holzen – guitar
Sam Baker – drums
Kyle Kegerreis – upright bassDirty Leather
Seven Angels on a Bicycle
Before You Say Another Word
I Don’t Want to Play House Any More
Blackberry Blossom (instrumental)
Got Your Name On It
The Mask of Zorro (new)
Big Kiss
“I’ll Leave You Now If You Don’t Want Me”
“What Kinda’ World Is This?”
Never Gonna Be Your Bride
St. PetersI’d be grateful to anyone who can supply titles for the Carrie Rodriguez songs I couldn’t identify.
April 21, 2007 at 11:36 pm #32649AnonymousGuestSounds like a great gig – I’m getting very jealous sat here in the UK reading all the comments about the latest tour. It was only November last year I managed to get to 2 of Lucinda’s UK gigs but I’m getting seriously in need of another fix. I’m gonna console myself by seeing Carrie in a couple of weeks at Leicester and Wolverhampton on her UK tour.

“What Kinda’ World [Love] Is This?” = “50’s French Movie” (from her 7 Angels.. cd)
Sorry, don’t know the other one 😕
April 22, 2007 at 2:34 am #32650EnnisDelMarParticipantGreat show all around. Perfect mix of songs, she kept 80% of the show uptempo/rockin’ which may surprise some Lucinda fans. I was a little surprised she didn’t do more from West. I wasn’t dissapointed because I loved all of the songs she played. I would have enjoyed her doing West from start to finish, that’s how much I like that record, but you sure couldn’t complain about this setlist. ‘Get Right With God’ was a show-stopper! Her band was very, very tight and her vocals were rich and true to the records. She seemed to be in a great mood, I think we ALL had a memorable time.
Highlights:
Out Of Touch
Get Right With God
Pineola
Unsuffer Me and Come On were AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!April 22, 2007 at 7:13 pm #32651ChuckSParticipantThanks for the title (50’s French Movie)
A correction above – I made some sort of silly subliminal error. The new Carrie Rodriguez song is actually called the Mask of Moses.
