From today’s Tennessean…
Prepare to be blown away by Lucinda Williams
Lucinda Williams
Published: Friday, 03/30/07
Every Lucinda Williams show is worth seeing. There was the one at the outdoor festival, with a stunning band and the version of “Pineola” that blew us all away. There was the one at the Ryman, with a different stunning band and a wealth of great songs and a sincerity of emotion that blew us all away. There was the one last year at Belcourt Theatre, with her father, the legendary poet Miller Williams. At that one, the daughter’s music felt like poetry, and the father’s poetry rang like music.
Tonight, Williams is back in town, this time for another engagement at the Ryman (116 Fifth Ave. N., 458-8700), Nashville’s most beloved and historic music venue. Her bag of songs has expanded to include the tunes from newly issued album West, another stout
addition to her stout catalog. Williams is absolutely one of our most compelling songwriters, and her voice is a bluesy treasure. Tonight’s show starts at 8 p.m., and tickets are $27.50 and $32.50 through Ticketmaster (255-9600).
