What say we all put a note in the suggestions category to try to get rid of the hucksters using this forum to sell crap.
I remember reading an article a while back in which Lu says she doesn’t know why Gurf Morlix stopped jammin’ with her. Does anyone have an inkling of what happened ? I know Gurf was on CWGR and SOW. Was he on earlier Lu CD’s ? I checked out his web site that had 3 or 4 songs on it for listening and only 1 that I liked. Anybody a GM fan ? Can ya recommend any songs or CD’s ?

a really nice (dry) guy.
btw, have any of you heard of kathleen edwards? she very lucinda williams sounding. her “back to me ” album is excellent, her first album “failer” could be mistaken as lucinda, she is a fan.
also look out for an unreleased lucinda williams track called “letters” on laura cantrells “humming by the flowered vine”
sorry for going on bit, just thought you would like to know.

Only had “Back to Me” but I’ll get “Failer” online.
Really tasty stuff.December 29, 2006 at 5:52 pm #32242celtic rocksParticipantgetsumonya,

I have his 3 solo albums and I love them ~ quirky, good songs, great playing… they won’t win any awards but I think they are worth having. He’s also a great show live.
As to why he doesn’t play with Lu anymore… well, things go in cycles don’t they? A band has a shelf life and when you have a solo career, guest on huge amounts of albums and have a flourishing sideline producing albums, well somethings got to give, I s’pose.
However, I did read one interview a while back (I think it was in “No Depression”) and when Gurf was asked about Lucinda he shook his head and smiled ruefully and said that the grammy he won for “Car Wheels…” was hidden away in the shed so he didn’t have to see it and then think about her.
Take from that what you will…

Very much worth going to see, she’s not just a studio talent.January 12, 2007 at 7:54 pm #32246BoParticipantI believe Gurf left while working on Car Wheels and Steve Earle stepped in to assist. Rumor was that Morlix left because of Earle but I think he left before Steve Earle came on as a co-producer.
In regards to Kathleen Edwards…fantastic artist. But she is no Lucinda…not yet anyway.
February 8, 2007 at 7:55 pm #32247CarlParticipantI thought the reason was, that Lu heard the sound Steve Earle was getting on the I Feel Alright album (which she duets on) and wanted a sound akin to that album and ditched the already recorded recorded sessions made with Gurf.
Copies of the original Gurf produced album are around on the net, and the sound is much more of a country feel than the final released version.

You mean because when she said “jump,” Steve said “how high, babe?” 8)
